hp dv9000 laptop locks up sometimes

Hi all, I have an hp dv9000 laptop (amd turion) nvidia graphics engine. I boot with kernel options noapic nolapic acpi_use_timer_override I also have ndiswrapper 1.48 For the most part its stable but there are times when the machine just locks up. I am running centos 5 x86_64 with all the updates. Anyone have a similiar machine and possible more stable OR know of another kernel boot option to make things more stable? Thanks, Jerry

kvm-amd on centos 5

Hi all, I am playing with kvm-amd on my centos 5 x86_64 laptop. I am using 2.6.23 as a second boot option to the standard centos 5 kernel. I have everything up and running except for the network. My laptop is a static 192.168.1.150 and the kvm comes up as 10.X.X.X. I cant ping my laptop or anything in the world. Is there a trick that someone knows about to get network to startup? I'd like to have it on its own 192.168.1.X address if possible. Thanks, Jerry

concat mount

Hi, I've got a buffalo 1TB DriveStation run in RAID 1 mode, i.e. 500G space available, but that beast is preformatted in vfat. Buffalo doesn't recommend to run it as ext2/ext3, so I mount a vfat drive wich has the limitations "no symlinks, no uids, no gids, etc.". As I just want to use the DriveStation as a backup target, I did the following: I created files of 4G size with 'dd if=/dev/zero of=x01-backup.ext3 bs=1G count=4' (as 4GB is the maximum file size under vfat) and formatted them as ext3. I can mount them and work with them, no prob. Now I'd like to have my 25 files of 4GB file size each coherently mounted as one 100G drive. Is this possible? Must be something like Raid 0. CentOS to support ICH9

Hi, full ICH9 support for Centos 5 can be found http://fs12.vsb.cz/hrb33/pub/ Take it as a workaround until CentOS 5.1 is released. I hope ICH9 to be included in this version. Support is done by backporting from new kernel versions. Delta file is created with mkdeltaiso from CentOS-5.0-i386-bin-DVD.iso, so full image can be created with applydeltaiso. Regards, David Hrbáč

Sword Project for centos 5

Hi! Anyone know of RPMS for the Sword Project (and Bibletime and/or GnomeSword) for Centos5/RHEL5? Latest RPMS I've found have a ton of dependencies, some of which are older than packages I've already got. keep /boot, copy / from elsewhere?

How much is likely to break if you keep a locally installed /boot partition with it's anaconda-crafted module set in the initrd, but wipe and completely replace / and any other partitions with a copy from a machine that has somewhat different hardware? Assume both machines are running the same kernel versions and the change is done while running from the rescue CD or other livecd boot. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

umount'ing a /media/disk... as a user

Hello! Currently, whenever I attempt to umount /media/disk (or -1, etc), I either have to be user or have to have given the account sudo privileges. Since these "disks" are usually just flash-memory sticks, I'd really rather have the permission to umount them be given to users. The /etc/mtab shows the /media filesystems, /etc/fstab does not.
