mount sftp or ftp+ssl drive on windows

Hello guys, I would like to mount a sftp or a ftp with ssl (vsftp with ssl) on to a Windows machine as an X: drive. So far I found SftpDrive witch costs only $39 :) and I don't want it. Do any of you have a positive experience with something like this? I need it cause I will install a very important software on that drive, witch doesn't need to be on the local disk of the windows machine. Thank you!

How to make fdisk recognize increased iSCSI LUN?

Hello, How to explain to fdisk that /dev/sda size changed? I increased LUN on storage, reloaded iscsi, did echo 1 > /sys/<something>/rescan. And I see in "dmesg" that kernel found new size of the LUN. But when I type "fdisk /dev/sda" it still shows old size. On /dev/sda1 sits LVM PV and I'd like to resize it instead of adding one more PV to volume group. CentOS 4.4 64bits. Thanks, Mindaugas

Basic Network question pinging different subnets

Hi Im a little perplexed by this situation I have centos 4.5 installed on 2 pcs - each with 2 network cards machine 1 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:2A:6B:C8:CC inet addr:10.54.7.2 Bcast:10.54.7.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:50:9B:A2:90 inet addr:10.54.0.2 Bcast:10.54.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 machine 2 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:2A:69:4C:47 inet addr:10.54.7.3 Bcast:10.54.7.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:50:9B:A5:0A inet addr:10.54.0.3 Bcast:10.54.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 machine 1 & 2 can ping each other on either subnets machine 3 (windows)... A good primer to User Administration?

Hi, I've been running Linux as a workstation OS for years, and have been dealing with Windows networks and standalone Linux servers for a while now. However, the time has come for me to complete redo the server installation and am looking to move to a complete CentOS install base, with only Windows workstations. My question is the following. I've been searching online for a good reference to describe good practices when building a linux network, but haven't really been able to find much when it comes to best practices for user administration, ACLs, "optimal" (or recommended) file locations, etc. For example, I know I need an LDAP server, but not sure how that ties into system login, or how to use a Linux LDAP server as the basis for a primary domain controller (is it still called that given Windows AD world?), etc. Or even how to properly create group structures and ACLs that accurately reflect group ownership/etc. The octal permissions at the file level are only good enough for a single group; I need to give multiple groups different permissions on the same files, etc. I realize that there are a lot of questions that I need to research, but I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of some advanced admin docs with best practices, etc. Most of the stuff I find relates on how to set up a basic standalone PC, without any reference to how to network together a bunch of servers running off central authentication, etc... How to create initrd.img

Hi, anyone to point me URL on initrd.img creating? I have custom kernel and want to create initrd.img for install media. mkinitrd /tmp/initrd.img 2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.hrb -v -f create unusable file for install media. Thanks, David

The du Upon further investigation, samba can only no longer use wildcards of any type or do things like 'ls' . Doing ls /mnt/SHARE/<complete file name> works fine whereas ls /mnt/SHARE/<partial>* gives an invalid result. I wonder if there is still is a compilation option (there was a few years ago) to enable/disable wildcards which is either turned off or has been disabled? If one knows the complete file name on a Centos 3 share then one has no problem. Windows boxes (and Linux boxes other than Centos 3) work fine and that is the way most admins use samba so this is hardly a crisis. ( Unlike the Ubuntu people who report that nmbd is segfaulting on their boxes and apparently have a different problem). regards, benm

Installing java on CentOS 5

strugging with things here... tried tracking the info on the Wiki (which apparently is now in need of a maintainer)... http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS My primary interest is using Xalan/Saxon/xslt/xsl-fo docbook generation. I was thinking that all I really need is jre but downloaded both jre and jdk just in case. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Problem running a setuid Perl script on CentOS 4.5

I'm trying to create a setuid Perl script (yes, I am aware about the security implications), but am getting this error: % cat testsetuid.pl #!/usr/bin/perl -UT print "My real user id is $< but my effective user id is $>\n"; exit(0); % ./testsetuid.pl Can't do setuid (cannot exec sperl) I am using the stock Perl that came with CentOS 4.5. The problem I am trying to solve is to run a software build as a particular user. We want any user to be able to submit a build job that runs on the build machine as the designated build user. If there is a better way to do this, I'm open to suggestions. Alfred
