change BIOS time setting in Xen?

How to you change the BIOS time settings in a Xen HVM fully virtualized guest virtual machine? Right now the BIOS time setting seems to be 3007 as year instead of 2007 which leads to funny problems after the os boots. Cheers, Chris

LSI 1068e (Super Micro OEM) - kernel update problem

Hello, I'am using a LSI 1068e OEM version from Super Micro (see lspci). I was able to install a plain CentOS5 with the binary drivers I got from Super Micro. 06:00.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic Unknown device 0059 (rev 04) Subsystem: Super Micro Computer Inc Unknown device a180 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 I/O ports at e000 [size=256] Memory at febfc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Memory at febe0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at fe800000 [disabled] [size=2M] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [68] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Capabilities: [98] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Capabilities: [b0] MSI-X: Enable- Mask- TabSize=1 But if I try to load the XEN kernel or a newer kernel all I got is a kernel panic, because the new kernel does not know about the megasr.ko module that I installed from disk. So I did the following (without final success): - cp /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.el5/updates/* /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.1.15.el5/updates - depmod -a 2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 - created a new initrd-cpio file and copied megasr.ko into the lib directory The systems starts loading the kernel and its ramdisk, and then hangs: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0) I'am a bit lost, what else I can do to get this working? weird cron problem

Hi, I'm having some problems with a script in /etc/cron.daily. It's quite simple: ------ #!/bin/sh touch /mnt/Backup/foo rsnapshot daily ----- So the touch gets executed, but the rsnapshot not. If I run manually > run-parts /etc/cron.daily/ everything's fine. Also when I run rsnapshot from roots crontab. So I have no idea what's the issue here. Any ideas / recommendations what to check? Localize CUPS?

Hi, I've been setting up a networked printer in a 100% Linux LAN, and there's only one small problem left: how do I localize the CUPS interface (e. g. the pages I see when opening http://localhost:631 in a browser)? My system is localized in french. LANG is fr_FR.UTF-8 in /etc/sysconfig/i18n. And I checked Firefox: it's supposed to open web content in French. Curiously, I had done similar installs before with Slackware 12, and there, the CUPS interface displayed in french "out of the box", e. g. without specifying it in cupsd.conf. Now IIRC, I had explicitly set a whole bunch of environment variables on my Slackware install (LC_MESSAGES and the likes) to french. 1) Could it be that? 2) Which variable would that be, and where do I set these in CentOS? Slackware's localization variables are all meant to be set in /etc/profile.d/lang.sh. Where is the orthodox place to do that in CentOS? cheers, Niki Kovacs

Hello everyone, I got a question, I'm not new in the linux scene or even a geek, but I am confused about certain stuff regarding Bind, DNS stuff, or whatsoever, maybe it's a silly question. Anyway. About 3 years ago I hired a dedicated server in certain company, for hosting my site and some other sites, didn't work at all the plan I had, nevertheless I was using Redhat 9 or something related to redhat, and using plesk as a control panel at that time, i was able to configure two dns servers on that box using the web interface, ns1.olddomain.com and ns2.olddomain.com using two public different IP addresses (201.56.xx.84, 201.56.xx.86), but now i want to do it without using plesk or even a control panel, now can i do this using CentOS? Maybe a tutorial, a howto could help me do the job, i am trying to migrate/learn more about networking using linux, but essencially how does it work, do i need two eth interfaces, virtual adapters, etc. Any help given will be apreciated. Thank you all. Sorry for my english, btw.

phpmyadmin on centos 4

hi there, i have a centos box with phpmyadmin installed, but i don't remember how i installed phpmyadmin 2.7.0-pl2. now i want to upgrade it with yum, but i don't find any phpmyadmin on my centos box. i tried: rpm -qa | grep phpmyadmi, but found nothing. is there an easy way to upgrade phpmyadmin? thanks, T. Seeking docbook-to-man package

I'm looking for a source RPM for docbook-to-man. I'm trying to build/install pxlib: <http://pxlib.sourceforge.net/installation.php> The tarball is set up to create an RPM, but it fails to convert its SGML documentation to man pages because I'm missing docbook-to-man. I found the latter here: <http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/tools/dtm/> I'm hoping someone has packaged this and has a source RPM available.

IO causing major performance issues

Hello everyone. I'm wondering what other people's experiences are WRT systems becoming unresponsive (unable to ssh in, etc) for brief periods of time when a large amount of IO is being performed. It's really starting to cause a problem for us. We're on Dell PowerEdge 1955 blades - but this same issue has caused us problems on PE1950, PE1850, PE1750 servers. We're running Centos 4.5 right now. I know Centos 5 includes ionice, more io scheduler/elevator selections like deadlock/etc. Perhaps that would fix this issue. We're running the latest PERC firmware. The specific issue I'm referring to at this point is on a system running mysql. All mysql data files are on a netapp filer but mysql's tmp directory is on local disk. Whenever a lot of temp tables are created (and thus written and deleted from local disk quickly) we can't even log in to the machine - and our monitoring system gets all freaked out and we get lots of pages, etc... FYI this is two disks with hardware raid 1. Is it just me? Or is this specific to Dell systems, or is this just the state of the Linux kernel these days? Is there some magical patch I can apply to make this issue go away :) Thanks in advance for any insight into this issue.
