[Semi-OT] Advice on large webmail setup

Hi all, As the resident Linux guru, I've just been tasked with costing a webmail setup for about 600 000 users. They each have 10MiB (small, I know) mailboxes. The current setup has about 40 million web page accesses per month. Has anyone here any experience with this kind of thing? If so, any pointers as to software and hardware used, and any other advice would be appreciated. TIA -- Cheers! (Relax...have a homebrew) Neil THEOREM: VI is perfect. Announcing the CentOS on Laptops initiative

Hi all, I would like to announce a CentOS on Laptops initiative. The aim is to allow everybody in the community (and on this mailinglist) to document their own experience with CentOS on their laptop (on the CentOS wiki). Custom Installer Kernel

Hi All, I'm trying to remaster the boot.iso image with a custom kernel as the nForce based boards I have are not supported by the stock CentOS 5.0 installer, but they are supported by newer kernels. I need this so I can do kickstarted network installs. Is there a howto available for how to go about this? My google prowess must not be as good as I thought as I've not been able to find anything relevant. Thanks Darryl

backups and md5 all in one while splitting

I'm trying to back up our svn repositories, and I found a nice little backup command line bzip's the backup and creates the md5 hash all in one: svnadmin dump --deltas /repo |bzip2 |tee dump.bz2 | md5sum >dump.md5 The problem is I need to split the backups, so this doesn't really work. Is there perhaps another way of piping things to allow for splitting of the backups? Currently I'm doing something like this svnadmin dump --deltas /repo |bzip2 |split - -b 64m cat *.bz2* | md5sum >dump.md5 Is there a way to do this all in one step? Russ

Have a look at http://zimbra.com. It has an open-source version with unlimited users. I've tried both it and scalix and much prefer zimbra. [Fred Kienker] Scalix has announced starting with Version 11.3, to be released mid December 2007, the number of premium users available in the Community Edition will be reduced from 25 to 10. The number of standard users will remain unlimited for now. There is new commercial licenses available starting at 20 users to fill in the gap. You can continue to use Ver. 11.2 which will remain at 25 premium users forever, but there are several serious issues in this version which will not be addressed except by updating to 11.3. In our experience the most current version of the Community Edition tends to be beta test software - YMMV. unstable libdg error when ./configure Perfparse on Nagios 2.x / CentOS 4.x

I'm trying to ./compile Perfparse on my Nagios CentOS 4.x box, but am having this error. (And am hoping someone here might point me in the right direction) "configure: error: required library libgd unusable." Here is a history of my problems: First, it ./configure 'd ok, but I couldn't "make && make install" due to an error. I googled and found this FAQ on the the subject (http://perfparse.de/tiki-view_faq.php?faqId=1) ********************************************************* Q: When i try to compile, i get errors like: perfparse-0.105.5/perfparse/storage.c:269: undefined reference to `g_path_get_basename' A: Try this: cd perfparse make copy & paste the "/bin/sh ../libtool ...." line and add "/opt/gnome/lib64/libglib-2.0.so" at the end. The path may vary. Try to find the libglib-2.0.so. Then try again with "make". ********************************************************* Not sure what happened, but it eventually was working, and later I got past that error and got a "gdImage" error when I tried to "make && make install". (This too is on the FAQ page) ********************************************************* "A: The gd library is probably not installed yet on your system. Or you are missing the development package such as libgd-devel or libgd-dev. Install gd and try again." ********************************************************* Not knowing what to do (gd-2.0.28-5.4E and gd-devel-2.0.28-5.4E were installed), we "yum removed" these packages (which destroyed Nagios, and I had to reinstall and reconfigure that too), and ever since, I've gotten that ""configure: error: required library libgd unusable" error whenever I've tried to ./configure with the automake tools. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

32bit HVM within CentOS5 x86_64+xen3?

Hi *! I have to install a xen virtualization host that will start with 4GB RAM and will maybe grow to 8GB in the future. And there has to be a 32bit winXP domU. Is CentOS5(.1) x86_64 able to run 32bit HVMs or do i have to stick with i386/PAE? /nils.
