CentOS 5 x86 & Joysticks

OS: CentOS 5.1 x86. Hi, has anyone used any joystick under CentOS 5? Yumex shows the following joystick-related packages installed: "freeglut 2.4.0-7.1.el5" "joystick 1.2.15-20.2.2" "xorg-x11-drv-joystick 1.1.0-1.1" I am under XFCE 4.4.2 but I also have GNOME and KDE installed. Any ideas on how to configure a joystick under this configuration? Thanks a lot.

Checksum Error during update

I ran across this error on this mirror while doing updates. Only happened on this particular mirror. Others worked fine. Digest Subcriber needs help with SELinux file context setting

CentOS-5.1 I need some help with setting up the SELinux context for a custom httpd directory so that I can write log files into it. This is what I have: In my virtual host config file: RewriteEngine on RewriteLog /etc/httpd/virtual.d/trac-rewrite.log # RewriteLogLevel 0=off 1=basic 2=verbose 3+=module developer debuging RewriteLogLevel 0 If /etc/httpd/virtual.d/trac-rewrite.log does not already exists then when I try to start httpd I get this: ---> # service httpd start Starting httpd: [FAILED] Checking /var/log/messages I see this: # tail /var/log/messages Dec 17 16:08:01 inet01 setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing the /usr/sbin/httpd from using potentially mislabeled files trac-rewrite.log (etc_t). For complete SELinux messages. run sealert -l cfc477ae-0443-44f7-9bd3-4ede69b03a57 Following the suggested remedy I do this: # sealert -l cfc477ae-0443-44f7-9bd3-4ede69b03a57 Summary SELinux is preventing the /usr/sbin/httpd from using potentially mislabeled files trac-rewrite.log (etc_t). Detailed Description SELinux has denied the /usr/sbin/httpd access to potentially mislabeled files trac-rewrite.log. This means that SELinux will not allow http to use these files. Many third party apps install html files in directories that SELinux policy can not predict. These directories have to be labeled with a file context which httpd can accesss. Allowing Access If you want to change the file context of trac-rewrite.log so that the httpd daemon can access it, you need to execute it using chcon -t httpd_sys_content_t.trac-rewrite.log. You can look at the httpd_selinux man page for additional information. These files tend to only be used when I am working on a new set of rules but I would rather not have this tripwire lurking in the background when I am concentrating on a different type of problem. I tried: # semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_content_t "/etc/httpd/virtual.d(/.*)?" and # semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_content_t "/etc/httpd/virtual.d/*\.log" But that did not make any difference for the current situation. If someone could enlighten me then i would be greatful. I realize that for some the use of SELinux is controversial. However, please do not "advise" me to drop SELinux as a remedy for this problem. We are not going to do that. Usually, we manage to configure our policies to handle situations like this as they arise using audit2allow and audit2why, I just cannot seem to find a way to generalize a solution to this one. P.S. I am a digest subscriber so that message threading is simply not going to work, Sorry, but that is just the way things are. possible bug 5.1 - possibly more of a package issue

Hi there, not really sure if this is a bug, but more so rather a missing file... I installed a fresh 5.1 copy very minimal - no desktop, etc. Now it came up later that I would need a desktop on this install. So I was going to just groupinstall in the Gnome Desktop. # yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" Now while processing the dependencies, it fails out with a dependency for libgaim.so.0 (for package nautilus-sendto). So I tried... # yum provides libgaim.so.0 No results. Ideas? dnk

"multi-boot" drive partitioning

I want to set up a multiple "mode" computer with four separate Centos installations on it. The objective here is to have a "spare computer" that I can boot up into any of four "modes" depending on what I'm swapping it in for a the moment. For example, I want to be able to boot it up as a webserver, or as a fileserver, or as a LTSP-enabled application server. And so on. I have a computer here with two 300GB hard drives in it, which I plan to split into four 150GB partitions, one for each of my "modes". And I want to install Centos separately and independently into each partition, so I can just tell Grub to boot up using whatever partition I choose. What is the best way to accomplish this? I have a bad feeling that the drive partitioning tool is going to complain about having multiple / partitions unless I take steps to avoid that. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Melville Sask ~ http://www.melvilletheatre.com

CentOS 5: problem with samba as PDC

Hello all i have successfully upgrade an old PDC samba server (debian woody) to a new centos 5. Everything works fine except for one thing 1- i'm unable to add new computer to domain except with the root users. Don't use the ram disk feature it was really intended for initrd images. Hi All, I am using Centos4.0 and running Squid Reverse Proxy for image caching , i have configured RAMDISK of 265 MB for one cache folder in preproduction environment for testing now i have upgraded RAM upto 8GB, but when i change ramdisk_size parameter in grub.conf and rebooted the server when i tried to format and mount it doesn't work. How to add Xen machine to xenstore?

I have been looking at the docs, but can't seem to find a way to add a machine to the xenstore so it shows up in 'xm list' even when it is shutdown.
