How do I burn a CD image under CentOS?

Newbie question (again): I'm running CentOS 4.4 (2.6.9-42.0.8) and have not been able to burn an ISO image of a 3rd party driver to my CD burner. cdrecord generates this and I'm not sure where to go on this from here: $ cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord-Clone 2.01-dvd (--) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jrg Schilling Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original. I use fwbuilder. ext3 filesystem performance question

Hi, I'm running centos-4.4 on an SMP system with 4 dual core opterons (2.4 GHz), and 16 GB memory. The disk drives are 500 GB SATA-Drives. Wondering about times for dd command performance and rm command performance in an empty machine (the filesystem has been made with "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sd...", nothing more) 1. Making a new 3 GB (1024 x 3megabytes blocks) file with dd needs 10.18 sec wallclock time: taskset 1 time dd if=/dev/zero bs=3M count=1024 of=~backes/xxxxx 1024+0 records in 1024+0 records out 0.00user 10.02system 0:10.18elapsed 98%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k 0inputs+0outputs (0major+187minor)pagefaults 0swaps 2. Help regarding DVD burning in multi session

Dear All, I am burning DVD using growisofs command and -M option for multi session burning. Command is executing properly but when I try to mount dvd, it is displaying error and error no is 32. Therefore, I am not able to view the DVD contents. If I try to read same written DVD on Win-XP, I am able to view it all records. Can u tell me where I am making mistake. I am using the following command: growisofs -Z /dev/DVD -R -J <DATA> //for first time dvd burn growisofs -M /dev/DVD -R -J <Data> //for next burning Thanks in advance. best Regards S.Balaji

Kickstart and NFS

I want to be able to do a kickstart utilizing nfs, but w/o the need of a dhcp server. Is that possible? Perhaps one can assign an IP address when invoking the linux ks=nfs.... command. === Al

I used firestarter to get a base configuration, then I used webmin's built-in "Linux firewall" setup module. php version 4.4 / ez publish

Hi list, is there any repository on this world where I can stick to and update to a stable and hopefully secure and hopefully long supported version 4.4 of php? EZ publish's software requirements as of the current version tells me that it requires php 4.4 which doesn't meet what Centos 4.4 or its upstream provides. For a certain project I want to use ez publish. Is there any solution you see for that? Install a seperate server for that? (That's the least I wanna do). Or _does_ it work with php 4.3 under centos 4.4? Any experience? Linux on a Thinkpad R40

I've just acquired a use IBM Thinkpad R40 model 2722-GDM. I'm contemplating what to run on it, and longer-term the likely candidates are: Centos 5 SLE{D,S} 10 OpenSUSE 10.2 Kubuntu - the latest. Kubuntu - Long Life (aka 6.04, Dapper, ...) I've booted Knoppix 4 in it and most seems well, including the Atheros Wireless card Windows can't find. The major flies in the ointment are the wireless and the inbuilt modem (Agere something). Google tells me the modem can be made to work, and I'm pretty sure from my Acer that the Atheros wifi also work with some minor fiddling: I've build the driver from source. The problem is, I've done enough fiddling* over the years. I've built enough kernels, attaced enough configuration files with vim, and I want an OS that just works. I'm sure RHEL 5 will not have a driver for my wireless, and I suspect not for my modem. Now the point: do the auxilliary CentOS repos have the missing bits so that I can commit to CentOS4 (or even RHEL5 beta) in the short term, knowing that it's a simple upgrade later? How will CentOS reflect the different RHEL 5 versions? Will it simply merge them into one product, or would one expect to choose different boot media? I ask this because I see SLED doesn't have some of the stuff I want - it's in SLES though, but then SLES doesn't have the madwifi stuff. * There's fiddling and there's fiddling. I'm getting tired of doing the same fiddling all the time; it's time for new adventures. Forgive my newbieness here, but how do I install the xfs module (and xfsprogs) once I have the rpms? I've never used rpm before this much, so I'm out of my depth here (but willing to plunge in :-).
