I have started using it today (unimportant stuff for now, for testing), and am wondering what are other people experiences with it. I'm using version 1.4.1, rpms kindly provided by Karan on his repository. My main concern is data loss, not security itself. From what I noticed, the strenght of CFS crypto is less than optimal. CFS right now looks like a very convenient solution. Much easier than the losetup stuff (which is a PITA). New time zone

NIS home automount feature

Howdy, I setup a test NIS domain that i'd like to test the home automounting feature so basically i done this; -Setup the NIS server and domain, make changes on Makefile to include auto.master, auto.home -had the client successfully connected to new NIS domain. on NIS/NFS server i added this on /etc/auto.master file; /home /etc/auto.home on /etc/auto.home i have this; * nfsserver:/home Now my problem is, how would i force/setup the client that it would use the auto{master,home} files on NIS server rather than using the locally same files, pointers and correction greatly appreciated. /joseph

defaultPref() does not work in firefox

I'm needing to force some settings system wide for Firefox. However, I am finding that using lockPref() in firefox.js silently fails... and causes all directives that come after it in the file to be ignored. An strace shows that it reads the firefox.js file in its entirety and then goes on about its business reading other config files and then terminates for no apparent reason. Is anyone else observing this? I'm running Centos 4.4 x86 with firefox-1.5.0.9-0.1.el4.centos4. Thanks, Steve

Problems with new kernels

Hello, I have been having problems using kernels since 2.6.9-34.0.2. After updating to a new kernel, my system runs, I'm guessing, 6 - 8 hours fine, then becomes unresponsive. For example, I installed the latest kernel the other evening, reboot for the changes and by morning, the system appears to be locked up. Typing 'yum update' takes about 10 minutes to execute. Not sure whats going on here but I'm stuck using 2.6.9-34.0.2. This is a centos 4.4 system on an IBM NetVista, 2.53 Ghz, 1GB RAM. I have noticed when there is a kernel update, it downloads the huge memeory and smp files. TIA Eddie

Problem with java-1.5.0 from c4-testing

performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk

Is there any performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk? I was wanting to use the mdadm monitoring tools to monitor the machines single disk drive for failures and such. Is there any performance hit for such a setup? Some machines have RAID some machines dont (for me) and I was thinking about a common setup. Also then if I want in the future I can actually just add the second disk and now I have RAID. Jerry

Accessing vncserver

Hi all, 3 weeks before lift-off we are looking for people who were planning to attend FOSDEM and are interested to join the CentOS team's presence. At FOSDEM we will have a booth and a developer's room. We are looking for people that: + can populate the booth for a few hours, socialize with people and answer questions + want to actively participate in the devroom discussions and presentations (socialize with team members and visitors and answer advanced questions) + attend outside social activities with the rest of us (on friday pre-FOSDEM, beer-event and on saturday another event) + would like to buy a special shirt and run around the campus with it :) No prior knowledge required except the ability/eagerness to reach out to people.
