dovecot and squirrelmail problem

Squirrelmail and Dovecot IMAP server are on separate machines, but both systems are running CentOS 4.4 and all applications are installed via yum Dovecot and Postfix are configured to use Maildir. I log in to Squirrelmail and attempt to create the directory named "test", as subfolder of None and allow it to contain subfolders. I get this error: ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: CREATE "test/" Reason Given: Invalid mailbox name: test/ There are no clues in log files anywhere. Any suggestion? -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

Digital Audio (via EIDE ribbon cables) supported in Kernel in CentOS 5.0?

Hello: Will Digital Audio (via EIDE ribbon cables) be supported in the Kernel in CentOS 5.0? I'm now using CentOS 4.4 on a Dell Dimension 2400 box (Celeron 2.6 GHz CPU). This is a dual boot box, rarely booted into Windows XP, but when I do use Windows, and I place an Audio CD into the DVD drive or CD-RW drive, I can hear the music. Using CentOS 4.4, I can see that the software and hardware are working OK, but, no music audible thru the speakers. TIA, Lanny

No problems, on several boxes, for more than one year. Then, I did a "clean" install of FC6 on my box and the "out of the box" experience on this box was *not* good. Red Hat, in their documentation manuals, which are available to download from CentOS.org, does NOT recommend upgrades. It is always better to backup your data, do a "clean" install, and then restore your data. That said, with my recent experience on this box, going from FC4 to FC6, in retrospect, I would have probably done as well or better, with an "upgrade". :-) I suggest that you partition manually with Disk Druid and that you do not use LVM if you are not up to speed on that. Same for RAID. Those are the recommendations in the Red Hat manuals for RHEL. Suggest you set up a small FAT32 partition, when you partition with Disk Druid for your Linux partitions, and move data between NTFS and ext3 via FAT32, if you need to share data. Not a good idea, to write to NTFS partitions from Linux, unless the knowledge of NTFS has increased a lot recently. When you get to the Disk Partitioning phase of the installation, say that you want to retain your non Linux (Windows XP) partitions. >Should I just download the disc sets and install on a >test machine and see which I feel more comfortable with? Yes, give it a try. We used Red Hat Linux 9 for a *long* time. CentOS 4.4 is probably very similar to that. CentOS does not have the latest Multimedia or Internet applications, for desktop use, but that's because it is a server oriented distribution and it is based on RHEL, which is more stable and secure. It is not always good to have the latest and greatest software, unless you like to fight bugs. I always do "Custom" installs, select what packages I want and how to do it. The Installer in CentOS 4.4 will allow you complete control, if you want it. The developers of CentOS are extremely active on this mailing list and I have seen them be incredibly helpful to people on this list. HTH, Lanny in Colombia, South America

For lack of knowlege of a better place to put this, I'm reporting an error on the CentOS FAQ. Update broke Evolution

Hello all, Tonights updates seriously broke Evolution as it no longer starts on two 4.4 up-to-date boxes. When I run "evolution" from the cli I get this: $ evolution (evolution:4865): evolution-smime-WARNING **: Failed all methods for initializing NSS The updates included firefox, seamonkey, seamonkey-nspr, and seamonkey-nss. A reboot causes no change, Any ideas? Marvin Eberly

CentOS 4.4 on Dell PE 6400 - not rebooting ...

Hi All, This is my first post ... I *HAD* been trying to get RHEL AS 4 onto this Dell PE 6400/700, but it just wouldn't go without some weird tweaking. I am VERY happy to say that CentOS 4.4 installed without a hitch! NICELY done folks! The only real issue for me is that the machine fails to reboot or shutdown correctly. It requires physical interaction with the power switch, which certainly limits remote, headless administration! A reboot (or shutdown -r now) follows through to " ", but the machine never restarts - it appears to freeze (num-lock works, key-caps does not and Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing) - I have to press and hold the power button to force a restart. I get similar results with telinit 6 (or init 6). A shutdown works ever so slightly better, it gets to the " ", and does not power off the machine, a simple press of the power button does power it off. Does ANYONE have ANY ideas? OR point me in some direction? Dell support is useless for an unsupported OS.
