Anaconda can't squeeze out the repomd.xml

Greetings. There must be some minor changes to anaconda. I'm getting the error: "Cannot open repomd.xml file...." the file seems to be located in the repodata directory... Hi, I have a quick question: if a bug is discovered in CentOS but the bug came from RHEL, how would this bug be handled? If CentOS fixes the bug, it would no longer be identical to RHEL, no? Steven

kernel panic with OS update

I've a bunch of RHEL4 systems that were originally installed with RH 4.3 using dd - a "master" system was installed, then the hard-drive was copied verbatim using dd to all the new systems. (Yes, I know that's bad. Yes, I'm working to fix that.) Recently I put yum on all those machines, created a yum repo and updated them to 4.4 with all the updates. That includes a new kernel. When the new kernel booted up, this is what happened: Loading ext3.ko module Creating root device Mounting root filesystem mount: error 6 mounting ext3 mount: error 2 mounting none Switching to new root switchroot: mount failed: 22 umount /initrd/dev failed: 2 Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! The old kernel works just fine. I don't think there's a hardware or BIOS issue with the new kernel. For some reason, I'm inclined to believe that there's some subtle issue with the file system, due to the install method. But then why the old kernel is working fine? I've a feeling that I'm missing something here. Some interaction between bootloader, kernel and filesystem maybe? -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

Anyone know where I can get a 'netmask' rpm for CentOS? I have it on my Fedora systems (it's in extras) but can't find it in CentOS' extras. LAMP on CentOS 4

Is there a reasonable way to upgrade to the latest Apache, MySQL and PHP packages on a CentOS 4 machine without breaking a bunch of dependencies or upgrading every other package on the machine manually (assuming that would even work)? I'm not having much luck getting an online 4 to 5 upgrade to work on a basic server, so I'm thinking that's not going to be a viable option for all of my remote CentOS 4 installations. For those who "rent servers" that came pre-loaded with CentOS 4, what do you do if you want to run CentOS 5? Have the ISP run the upgrade from the console for you and hope they can do it with minimal damage to your data? :) Thanks, Scott

Ok just curious how many hits the http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/5/isos/ URL was getting? lol I think I check at least 4-5 times a day and all of a sudden instead of forbidden error I got in!!! ... only to find the tail end of some of the powers' humor: "5 hasnt been released" LOL I just about fell over -- L -- "To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work ON it."
