core 2 duo motherboards and centos 4

from my googling around, it doesn't look there is a single motherboard that supports core 2 duo and works without patches or tweaks. is that true? the main thing we want is: core 2 duo support 4g of 800mhz (or better) ram sata gig ether with pxe boot we can live without pata or usb for a while. we've tried intel 965 and asus p5b based boards with various levels of ease of install, but all required some kind of driver update, which just isn't acceptable to us. well, i guess it could be acceptable if it could be built in to a pxe boot setup, but so far i haven't found any docs to even let me understand how hard/easy that might be. does v5 support any of these boards better?

Centos DVD image... for NON bittorrent users?

Hello, could someone (some mirror) please provide DVD isos of the Centos5 also via ftp/http. The bittorent ports on out network are blocked and at the moment I couldn't find any DVD isos for "regular" download. Thanks, Gernot

[OT] CentOS 5 and Inspiron 6400 [WAS: CentOS 5 - Issues with multimedia]

Did you remove any of these partitions (e.g. the Media Direct one)? Could you share your experience? I'd like to preserve the base functionalities without preventing me to use CentOS 5 as the master OS. Thanks in advance, Matteo

Using Xen under CentOS 5.0

OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. I have an internal modem with a driver that works with CentOS 4.x but not with 5.0. So I am thinking of using Xen in conjunction to SL 4.x. My question is, does this require separate physical partitions for SL 4.x, or will these be part of a VM file or something with CentOS 5.0 as a host?

Lost file associations, only application/octet-stream

Hi, After updating from CentOS 4.92 to 5 through manual hacks and 'yum update' (see http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2007-April/079023.html), I've lost all gnome file associations. Now every file is identified as application/octet-stream or text/plain or x-directory/normal (for directories). I've checked everything with 'rpm -Va' but couldn't find problem related to mime types. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Leonardo

Rebuild all currently installed RPMs?

Hi there, Does anyone know a quick way in yum or rpm to reinstall all currently installed rpm's - ie: Some files have been deleted but you don't know which ones.. So you just want to force a reinstall of all currently installed. I have been using: Rpm -Va | grep missing >> missing.log And then more missing.log Rpm -q -whatprovides /path/to/file And then Rpm -Uvh --force ftp://mirror/path/file But it's a slow and painful process. It's on a CentOS 4.4 machine. JC

Saving Gnome Sessions in CentOS 5.0 x86

OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. I am not sure it is a bug or something, however regarding saving Gnome Sessions, under Session Options, even if we select "Ask on logout", it doesn't ask. Any work arounds?

Yum package/instlal/update problem

Hi gang! I'm trying to update my videolan client (0.8.4a-4.el4.rf) to the latest 0.8.6 version. I see that Dag has a 0.8.6 for EL4 (I'm running Centos 4.4) but when I do "yum update videolan-client" it says there's nothing to update. When I remove the videolan client than do "yum install videolan-client" it insists on trying to install the 0.8.4 version: ============================================================================= Package Arch Version Repository Size ============================================================================= Installing: videolan-client i386 0.8.4a-4.el4.rf rpmforge 5.4 M Transaction Summary ============================================================================= Install 1 Package(s) Update 0 Package(s) Remove 0 Package(s) Total download size: 5.4 M Is this ok [y/N]: n I can't figure out why it's not installing the 0.8.6 version that is clearly visible at Dag's repository at this page: http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/vlc/ where we see, among other things: vlc-0.8.6b-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm Anybody got a clue?
