Centos %.0 failed to recognize my video card

I tried to install Centos 5.0 yesterday and it was a complete failure. The installer could not detect my vidio card. The vidio card is a nvidia geforce fx GeForce FX (generic). This is the same vidio card that was perfectly recognized in Centos 4.3 The anaconda installer repartitioned my disk and installed a custom selection of software. This took about 1 hr. When I rebooted it would no start x windows. I even took a file copy of the Centos 4.3 xorg.conf and put it in /etc/X11 directory. I tried system-config-display reconfig and it failed to recognize the vidio. I reinstalled Centos 4.3. I have had the same problem when I was trying to install fedora core 5. I am convinced the redhat people removed the monitor selection for a viewsonic VP171b. This is why it must have happened. I had reported this problem when I was on the fedora core system. But Redhat did not do anything to correct the problem. I am stuck at Centos 4.3 forever. I am so frustrated I even tried Ubuntu but that would not recognize my usb 1.0 mouse. I am waiting to amass the cash necessary to buy an apple Imac. At least with there systems everything just works without problems. -- Richard Miles Federal Way WA. USA registered Linux user 46097

additional window managers

Hi, How can I put an additional window manager in the login screen? I've installed fluxbox and I'd like to be able to log in with it. Thanks much in advance. Mouting Xen DomU images in Dom0

Hi everyone, I have a CentOS 5 Domain0 with a CentOS 5 Domain U installed on my machine, it all works flawlessly. One of the problems I am faced with is transporting the Domain U image to another machine (not in real time). Since the Virtual Machine Manager allows installing the guest operating system using the CentOS 5 installer, it ends up treating the partition (in my case an LVM partition) as a physical disk. To backup my Xen image is xm save the best way of doing it? Or can I infact mount the partitions created by the Domain U in Domain 0 and tar.gz them. PearDB, PHP, CentOS 5

All, I'm trying to get a small app working but it requires DB.php provided by Pear. I've double checked and I have php-pear.noarch installed but there is no DB.php (just DependencyDB.php ). There seem to be no other packages that have pear or a DB.php file. Anyone have any ideas where I can get it? I've found just the files provided from the Pear site but I have no idea where to copy them to so everything is noticed properly. Suggestions/Solutions? Thanks!! Lonny

Install hung 51%

The Centos 5 install on my notebook stopped at 51% complete on downloading packages. Is there anyway to restart where it hung? Say boot into linux resumeinstall ? :) ARGH!!!

Rebuild all currently installed RPMs?

Hi there, Does anyone know a quick way in yum or rpm to reinstall all currently installed rpm's - ie: Some files have been deleted but you don't know which ones.. So you just want to force a reinstall of all currently installed. I have been using: Rpm -Va | grep missing >> missing.log And then more missing.log Rpm -q -whatprovides /path/to/file And then Rpm -Uvh --force ftp://mirror/path/file But it's a slow and painful process. It's on a CentOS 4.4 machine. JC

My server comes up in run-level 5 but I have to hit ctrl-alt-f7 to switch to the x-server screen. It doesn't switch to it automatically for some reason. Once I've changed to the graphical virtual screen everything else seems to work normally.

CentOS 5 dual head doesn't work

I just bit the bullet and installed CentOS 5 on my work desktop, and although I have two monitors and a card that supports them, I cannot get the display configuration to work with both as a continuous (spanning) desktop. I have tried using the correct (autodetected) monitor type (digital and analog), a generic LCD with 1280x1024, nothing works. Every time I set the configuration, the X server fails to restart and I wind up with single-head monitoring (duplicate displays on both screens).
