xen - 4 concurrent virtual DomU limitation - how to increae this? (centos 5 x86_64)

Is there a switch or config setting somewhere that would allow me to start up more than the default 4 xen DomU instances? I am finding that the CentOS 5 (x86_64) installation only allows me to start up 4 virtual machines at a time. (It is definetly not a lack of cpu resources, memory or disk space.) Any help or pointers, would be much appreciated. Regards, -- Urs Rau

monitor software does not find Belkin UPS

I have upgraded to CentOS5 on our computers. I had been using Mandriva 2006. The problem I am having is that the networkupstools (nut-2.0.4.tar.gz) does not find the UPS device. However, when I had Mandriva 2006 on the same hardware it worked. The device manager on CentOS does show the UPS device. The settings I used in the ups.conf file are: driver = newhidups port = auto Using the same version of nut with the same config files on CentOS5, I get the following output from 'upsdrvctl': Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.0.4 Network UPS Tools: New USB/HID UPS driver 0.28 (2.0.4) No matching USB/HID UPS found Driver failed to start (exit status=1) The following libusb files are installed: libusb-0.1.12-5.1 libusb-devel-0.1.12-5.1 Using ./configure --with-user=ups the lines for libusb show: checking for libusb cflags... checking for libusb libs... -lusb I posted this problem to the mailing list for the nut software. The conclusion is that the nut software is setup correctly. I also downloaded and installed the latest version (nut-2.0.5.tar.gz) and got the same result. All UPSs are Belkin F6H375-USB. I have searched the internet and found no other solutions. Since the software works under Mandriva 2006, I would presume that there is a package that is installed by default on Mandriva that is not installed by default on CentOS or that a config file is setup differently. Any help will be appreciated, David

rar incompatiblity from 4.4 to 4.5

i just upgraded my centOS to 4.5 and i try to install rar and i get this problem, isn't apt should automatically install all deps? ---snip---- Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. General protection error

G'morning, all Over the last few months I've had a few instances of log lines of the following type on a handful of servers: nscd[9301] general protection rip:2a9578dea0 rsp:405f1368 error:0 As far as I've been able to figure out, this is the kernel warning me that nscd has tried to write outside of its allocated memory. Since the current nscd is started at the exact same time as the log message, I suspect that the kernel killed the process and it was automatically restarted by our automatic host management system. This has happened to different processes than nscd, and the servers where I've seen it run CentOS 4.4 or 4.1, with kernel versions 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp, 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp or 2.6.9-11.106.unsupportedsmp. I've not been able to find much relevant regarding what can be done about this, but I suspect that the general answer is "this is a bug in the application". If someone knows of any condition where this is more likely to appear than others, or any other debugging hints, I'd be happy to know about it. -- Haakon Gjersvik Eriksen -- Basefarm AS

cups foomatic error centos 5....

I am trying to setup a local printer that I have working in centos4.4 on centos 5, this is a server install no X. I was able to get the cups webpage up and it sees the printer I configured it up but when I try to print to it i get the following error: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed", I've searched and searched but can't find anything that helps. I would like to try to install it outside of cups but it appears they only have a GUI to add a printer. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello all Sorry for posting my query here, but did not have any success in getting feedback from linuxprinting.org/ openprinting.org forums. Planning to buy a new colour MFD or a Mono MFD & a Colour printer, for small buisiness office use. Could someone give feedback on HP Laserjet MFD M3027x and Laserjet 2840? Do all functions provided by the printers work on Linux? Any kinks? Do Network Fax features of M3027x work on linux? Any problems in scanning & saving to disk or rather, is there any gui for scanning etc. & especially checking ink levels other maintainence tasks? I use Fedora 6 and CentOS 4/5. Any other model recommendations? With best regards. Sanjay
