Active Directory

Hello For the moment I manage the user in the network with win 2000 Server. I want to use an linux OS to manaxhe the network? Is this possible. So. How can I organize and configure the Cent OS to use it as Active Directory or something like this, and to open all the existing users there, and then to shut down the win2000 Server and to Activate the CentOS as domain controller? yum upgrade perl question

I'm looking to install n2rrd, which requires Perl 5.8.x (http://n2rrd.diglinks.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi) I see that lots of Perl stuff is installed. Do I just need to yum upgrade perl-libwww-perl-5.78.5 to the latest? Security checklist for new Centos server?

Greetings, everybody I've browsed around a bit, but there seems to be no single practical list of this kind. What would you do to make a new Centos server which must run apache, IMAP (Dovecot) and SMTP (PostFix) and nothing else for a few domains as secure from attacks as possible, using only standard RPM packages as much as possible? (Please note that choice of other IMAP and SMTP servers is not possible in my case, for a lot of reasons really not pertinent on the list, so let's not go there, please) Here's a first absolutely uncomplete draft off the top of my head: - remove as many unnecessary packages as possible (best way to find them?) - install dovecot (not included in centos, IIRC) and other extra packages you do need - run yum update - enable long passwords - set up only ssh2 on a non standard port - set up Single Packet Authorization? - set up itables (what would the safest iptables script to do all and only the services listed above? - what else? Feel free to rearrange, cut, add, give links, whatever: personally, I'm interested in securing the whole box, meaning how to glue things together in the safest possible way, without forgetting anything, while things like how to make Postfix not an open relay, for example, are already covered in detail in the Postfix docs. scripts with the dialog command

Is there a way to send stdin information to a script that is using the dialog command? I tried echo -e "\n\n\n" | scriptname and this had no effect. I tried scriptname << EOF EOF and that had no effect. I am looking for a method that calling dialog within a script will obey stdin. Anyone have an idea. Jerry

GRE Tunnels

Hey all, Anybody been successful running DHCPD on a GRE tunnel? possible corrupt rpm database

Hello, I've got a centos5 box that at least has a dependency issue or a corrupt rpm database. I am open to suggestions as to how to proceed. I have added some extra repositories to my yum configuration, centosplus, rpmforge, atrpms, and the kbs repos. I haven't been having issues with installs or upgrades until today when i ran a yum update, and got a missing dependency error for zaptel, a perl dependency. I've tried doing a yum install for the package, but no success. The error is below and i am open to suggestions. Thanks. Can we get a newer version of madwifi on rpmforge?

RPMforge still has: rpmForge: madwifi-0.9.2.1-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm ATrpms has: madwifi-0.9.4-38_r2512.fc6.i386.rpm but requires their patched kernel. I am at IETF this week, and was at IEEE 802 last week. There are over 60 visible access points in most locations (actually not that may APs, but an SSID for b/g, another for a, another for 802.1x TKIP, another for 802.1x CCMP, argh!) and I think there are some serious table handling problems. It would be nice to be current with code...
