x86_64 rpms

Hi, I'm preparing a new x86_64 build machine and I'm looking at installed rpms. I have found a lot of packages are marked i386 or i686. I have even found I have two version of package installed: glibc-2.3.4-2.36-i686 glibc-2.3.4-2.36-x86_64 What's the reason in duplicity and why not all packages are x86_64. Thanks in advance, David

Ham Radio s/w and CentOS? {including Echolink}

I am going to present Linux to my ham radio club at some point in the next few months, and wanted to collect info on ham radio software, including options for echolink. Our repeater has an echolink connection, thus if I present the software available for it, it might perk up people's interests more. It would also be very helpful if the echlink applications offered proxy/firewall options so people at companies or at home that have networks that implement firewalls, can proxy out and still get on Echolink. Also, anyone know of a live-on-CD/DVD CentOS distribution that may include Echolink and/or other ham software? Thanks for any leads. Scott, WY1Z

CentOS Within VirtualPC 2007

Trying to get CentOS 5 running under VirtualPC 2007. The installation seems to go OK until X server runs. After this the screen display goes horribly wrong. Does anyone know if this is an issue with v5 or something else. Also has anyone managed to get CentOS running properly (from the install) under VirtualPC 2007? Hello, Have install of centos 4.5 on Xeon 64 bit. Want to copy install DVD to harddrive and later use this to update the OS. However I dont know how to ask the install program to look on the harddrive rather than DVD CD. TIA Tony

Misterious Yum install Error: "package ... is reduced"

Hi, Here is a newbie to Yum on Centos 5. I got an interesting yet misterious problem here. When I rolled a mod_jk package and tried to install it onto a bunch of Centos 5 boxes with comand 'yum -e 10 -d 10 install mod_jk', it fails with the messages at end; and so mod_jk just ended up ignored. But when I manually run 'rpm -ivh --test mod_jk...rpm' on command line it reports no problem. Please help. ----------------------------------------------------- ... C5 RPM for RequestTracker now available

Hello, I took a stab at packaging RequestTracker for CentOS 5. Basically some needed FC6 packages were rebuilt as el5. The results are here: http://www.tlviewer.org/rt3/ I'm an rt3 newbie. I'm in the process of reading the DOCS and setting up the DB. The install via RPM appears to be sound. So far the login page for RT opens successfully. Perl-related problem on rrdtool?

On CentOS 4.5, I have Cacti and Nagios installed. I'm trying to "glue" them together with a program called n2rdd but am having a problem that I wondering is Perl-related. When I run "tail /var/log/nagios/rra/n2rrd.log", I see lots of this sort of thing: server01: Missing template for "server01" service "check_ping" "/etc/n2rrd/templates/rra/ping.t" I have a ping.t template in that file path, but it's still not working. In fact, I did one exactly like the example in the instructions (step 7, example 1: http://n2rrd.diglinks.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/InstallationGuide) and then I copied that icmp.t template to ping.t While I don't expect a CentOS list to help me with a non-CentOS, perhaps someone can tell me if this is a "Perl on CentOS" issue. I'm relatively new to installs requiring Perl and assumed I was ready to go Perl-wise on this version of CentOS Thanks.
