xscreensaver lock problem resolved!

Hello to all: I'd like to thank everyone who offered insight to why xscreensaver lock wasn't working. Just this morning I performed a last-minute search, based on some leads, of possible pam configuration issues. One URL that popped up via google was http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs//pam/FAQ Q9 contained a lead to make `which xlock` setuid root (chmod +s). I did this for `which screensaver`, rebooted, and authentication worked! So that was an unexpected change, but documented from a reliable source. I hope this maybe helps someone else who may hit some of the same obstacles as I. A good weekend to all, and stay tuned for more questions... :-) Scott

What libs req'd to resolve DNS within a chroot jail?

Hi, I've been working at getting a tftp server up an running in a chroot jail, and I have finally succeed getting almost everything working. The server itself works fine, however, it is implemented as a tcpwrapper application (ie: in.tftpd) and I am having trouble getting it to resolve DNS names. I copied my /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny in my chroot/etc folder, however, they only work properly if I provide IP addresses. If I use FQDN, they fail. For instance, in hosts.allow: in.tfptd: 192.168.1.101 allow works fine But the following fails in.tftptd: eric.test.com allow I'm assuming I am missing a library/libraries in my chroot jail, but am not sure which ones. I've got all the libs req'd by ldd, but I am guessing there is something else that I am missing. Any suggestions? Thanks! Eric

Just wondering, what's the roadmap for OO to be upgraded. I have version 2.0.4 and official is already in 2.3.x and suppose in march there's going to be 2.4 version. As well as Gimp, we using 2.2 and there is 2.4.x Anyone heard upstream roadmap for upgrading? Jarmo

Mounting /var directory to a new HardDisk

Hi, I have a mailgw running Centos where trendmicro(IMSS) is installed. it works perfectly. Now, the problem is it is running out of Harddisk. pls see below and pay attention to / file system (/dev/sda6), where only 1.3 gb is available. these are not Logical volums (LVM) [root@gateway 17141]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 9.7G 7.9G 1.3G 87% / /dev/sda1 99M 9.2M 85M 10% /boot /dev/sda5 15G 11G 3.5G 75% /opt none 627M 0 627M 0% /dev/shm I checkd with du -h. then, I saw /var has 7.1 gb. So, Now I want to know, If I plug a new harddisk and partion with fdisk and then format that harddisk, will I able to mount /var directory to it ? Your Ideas? -- Thank you Indunil Jayasooriya

Did/Can you get the customer to try 'Ctrl-Alt-F1' or similar to see whether it may be that the Xserver has hung but not the OS ? I've used bacula in production at a few sites, it has all the enterprise features, except a good GUI ;-) It can control autoloaders and do full backups each night etc. http://bacula.org Typically, people use 'mt' to control autoloaders from the CLI. display resolution

Do you need to reboot after adding an entry to fstab?

man mount.davfs provides an entry in fstab for -t davfs. Does simply adding this into fstab complete the task, or is a reboot needed? (or some service restarted).
