Replacement for Intel SDS2 Motherboard

Alle, We have recently had one of our office servers go south. The hardware was an Intel SDS2 motherboard (EATX), Dual Intel PIII 1.4GHz FC-PGA2-L2 512KB, 3GB (6x512MB) 168 pin DIMM, SDRAM 133MHz/PC-133-ECC with 1x3Ware 7006-2 and 2x3Ware 7506-4LP RAID controllers. The OS was RHEL3. Apparently, according to the beep codes, there has been an FRB failure. I've migrated most of the services (mail,web,proxy,samba,mysql,mailman,home directories) to an interim box running CentOS 5.2. At a minimum, I need to replace the motherboard and CPUS (I'm told they are unrecoverable). All the remaining hardware I plan to re-use, as well as moving from RHEL to CentOS. Does anyone have any recommendations on replacement motherboards with CentOS 5.2 in mind, along with the re-usable hardware requirements? Best Regards, Camron -- Camron W. Installer kernel config

Hello, I'm curious where I can find the config for the kernel included with the CentOS 5.2 x86_64 installer. I need to verify hardware compatibility (especially ethernet and SATA) prior to making a purchase decision, and reckon that seeing what's included with the installer would be the most direct way. Slow NFS writes

I guess I'm sort of surprised and I expected better performance I have a new server set up with RAID 10 drives (6) Repeated a number of times and though I am clumsy with stop watch timing, these numbers appear to be close enough for government work... Server, CentOS 5.2 and updated earlier today, just installed a week ago. Client, Macintosh G4, OS X 10.4.11 NFS Mount is done with the following options... -P (privileged ports) intr -r=32768 -w=32768 I tried doubling the size of the read/write windows to 65536 but it seemed to make little difference. Task, Read / Write 648 Megabyte Photoshop file (PSD) Win2K = Win2K server (slow), RAID 5, Symantec EndPoint (ugh), retiring this server AFP = Netatalk from new CentOS Server SMB = Samba from new CentOS Server NFS = see above options, same CentOS Server Copy To Win2K AFP SMB NFS 1m40.053s 0m22.566s 0m23.817s 2m11.849s Copy From Win2K AFP SMB NFS 1m34.478s 0m20.709s 0m20.823s 0m23.487s NFS read performance was slightly slower than AFP/SMB but the write performance was poor. I suppose that the answer is not so important because if the performance was equal to AFP and/or SMB, they'd probably just use AFP anyway but I did want to register my shock (or my ignorance). Craig

RAID on Email Server

I have an email server running Exim, Dovecot, Spamassassin, Clam, etc. on Centos 4.x 32bit. On occasion I have disk I/O problems. Its handling several domains and alot of email. Its currently on a single SATA drive. I am thinking of moving too 3 drives with RAID 1 for redundancy. RAID 1 will help me on reads but do nothing on writes as I understand. I am thinking the majority of my I/O is read though not? I imagine quotta checks and all that being done and everytime a user checks there email every message in the inbox must be read. I guess I am asking if RAID 1 will help my I/O problem much? Recent CentOS4 kernel update

I see an update for the CentOS4 kernel, to 2.6.9-78.0.5.EL, has appeared over the weekend. I've not seen anything on the announce list for it though. Have I missed something? James

Finding the correct ext3-fs dm/LVM?

I'm getting ext3-fs maximal mount count warnings on logical volumes that are regularly mounted und unmounted for backup. Of course, I can just tune2fs all of them to stop that. Delete all mail users data (mail server)

Hi Please I would like to delete all users date mail (not accounts) in my mail server box. I using Centos 5 and Virtualmin with postifx (maildir) and dovecot and sasl auth. Once I erased simply the files in the maildir folders and broke the dovecot setup (dovecot cache or index). Which is the correct way of doing it? Thanks in advance. roberto -- Ing. command line escaping a dash

I cannot figure this out...
