cannot start Mysql

Only the client gets installed. The argument was that their support folks were spending an inordinate amount of time helping people get their databases configured and running. Centos 5 and Driver Disks

Hi, I am trying to install CentOS 5.2 on a Dell PowerEdge R905, and a problem that you run into is that the DVD Drive on the system is not recognized by the kernel. I have done some searching on the web and found http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_103_13121.shtm and obtained the driver disk that it mentions. Having followed the instructions I can see and select the driver disk image but the install thinks there are no appropriate drivers in the image. Can someone please confirm or deny that I should be able to use a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Driver with CentOS 5 without issue ? It isn't a big deal as I will try a Network based install or use a USB DVD drive but I just want to confirm if using a RHEL 5 Driver Disk should work :) Thanks, and have a nice day

Problems with Thunderbird

On new CentOS 5.2 installation (and ugradation before config the diferent programs I use), I'm having problems with Thunderbird 2.0.0.17. Problem 1: I configured my e-mail account (as I have in my old machine) and I have no access to my pop3 and/or smtp servers. I write my user for the access, but thunderbird no ask my password anytime. Problem 2: I installed lightning, but I can't add any new calendar to it (local or remote). Does anyone have these problems or knows how to solve them? Regards

Hi all,I have problem on CentOS 5.2 while everything is working great,suddenly i have this error when i login my server, sudo su - -bash: /bin/egrep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/egrep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/egrep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/hostname: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/grep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/grep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/grep: cannot execute binary file -bash: /bin/grep: cannot execute binary file [root@centos ~]# and when i try use vi editor,i have same error like above -bash: /bin/vi: cannot execute binary file What is problem do you think ? i searched this problem on google but did not found any reasonable answer. new list proposal

One thing that we are often blamed for is trying to stifle conversations and to discourage people from commenting / contributing / encouraging conversations. And that cant be further from the truth, really. We are all pro-community ( and when I say we, I mean everyone - including the contributors, developers, admins, users, abusers and hey upstream too ). However, one thing that does get in the way, often, and something that we all feel creates a higher 'noise' ratio is conversations on this list about semi-related stuff, but not something that directly contributes to the general users of CentOS. Conversations that specifically address four areas: - technologies - best practices - deployment strategies and tools - management strategies and tools And to better cater to these conversations, as well as further encourage such content, we'd like to propose creating a 'centos-tech' list. How to view djvu files?

Greetings to everyone! On Fedora I used to use djvulibre package for djvu files, but I cannot seem to find this in any CentOS repositores out there. Google also does not help, nor searching list archives. :-( I have found the .rpm file for RHEL 4, but when I tried to install it (hoping that it just might work) rpm refused to install with the error: file /usr/share/mimelnk/image/x-djvu.desktop from install of djvulibre-3.5.17-1.el4.rf conflicts with file from package kdelibs-3.5.4-16.el5.centos I' out of ideas. CGI configuration - second post

This is my second request for help with this problem. I have followed the suggestions given the first time and made some progress but I still have one final problem/question. I have two CGI scripts that don't work. One is the standard Set-Cookie, examples can be found all over the net, that sets a cookie and prints "Your cookie name is set." The other is an automatic installation script that comes from commerce-cgi.com and is for installing their CGI shopping cart. Both of these scripts are now located in /var/www/cgi-bin/ and the folder and the scripts are set to apache:apache 755. BTW a setting of root:root also fails exactly the same way. If I run either of these scripts from a browser using www.domain.com it fails. If I run it from a browser using www.domain.com/cgi-bin/install.cgi or www.domain.com/cgi-bin/techtest.cgi it works. I have tried using a one line index.shtml file with that one line being either  or  and they both fail. They do find and execute the script. The set cookie script prints the "Your cookie name is set." message OK but the cookie is not sent to the browser. The install script loads the first HTML page ok but does not load the second page. I had a friend-of-a-friend IT guy that I trust look at everything. He hasn't found anything obvious. If he tries to run either of these scripts from his computer, it works OK. Can someone here help me understand why this is happening? Mel PS posts in other online places (as suggested here) did not get any replies.
