How does one redirect output of a command such as 'make' to a file _and_ the console? Thanks! jlc

Promise EX16650 under 5.2?

Does anyone have experience using the Supertrak EX16650 sas controller under Centos 5.2? The Promise website claims RHEL 5.2 support was added Sept '08. I figure the card might very well be detected, but how about the management gui - it appears to use some sort of web interface, but the card has no ethernet jack, so it must rely on some special driver to access this? Any information is appreciated. I'm not finding much under google regarding this card and redhat (or centos), so either it's rather new, or unpopular, or just doesn't have problems so no one complains? Thanks, Gordon.

noauto option ignored in CentOS 5.1?

I have worked quite a bit with CentOS 4.x with SAN, multipathing, LVM etc. The way I mount my file systems is using a script that is called during startup that runs fsck, imports the physical volumes, and volume groups, activates the logical volumes, creates the mount point if needed then mounts the volume, I mainly made it for software iSCSI due to the iscsi stack loading after the system mount process. I adapted it to my fiber channel systems as well and it worked great(mainly so I could have a consistent experience between FC and iSCSI). In testing with CentOS 5.1 it seems that my entries in /etc/fstab that are marked "noauto" are still infact queried when the system boots (before multipathing, etc fires up). These devices don't exist at the time which causes the boot to halt(so I can fsck the file system manually). I have worked around it by commenting out the line in fstab, and just adjusting my script to look for the commented line, but this never happened under CentOS 4.x, seems like a bug ? I peeked at Red Hat's bugzilla but didn't see much. If so I can file one.. thanks nate

L2ARC (disk caching) for Linux?

First off; are there any storage-centric mailing lists that target Linux specifically? Secondly, I'm wondering if there's anything in the works or already out there similar to Sun's L2ARC[1] for ZFS. Basically this is a filesystem (or maybe lower-level) cache for reads, writes that can be comprised of faster media like SSD. I think it could make SATA-based JBOD solutions a lot more attractive from a performance perspective. New installation woes

I've just installed CentOS 5.2 for the x86_64 on a SuperMicro X6DA8-G board with two 250g SATA drives configured in the bios as a raid 1 array. After getting the base installed, I've tried to yum update the system and I wind up with these errors.... --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient.so.14(libmysqlclient_14)(64bit) is needed by package perl-DBD-mysql Error: Missing Dependency: libgsf-1.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package libwpd Error: Missing Dependency: libneon.so.24()(64bit) is needed by package subversion Error: Missing Dependency: libaprutil-0.so.0()(64bit) is needed by package subversion Error: Missing Dependency: libpq.so.3()(64bit) is needed by package perl-DBD-Pg Error: Missing Dependency: libapr-0.so.0()(64bit) is needed by package subversion Error: Missing Dependency: libevent-1.1a.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package nfs-utils Error: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient.so.14()(64bit) is needed by package perl-DBD-mysql I'd like to think that out of the box centos would at least update without a bunch of missing dependencies. CentOS 5.2 with IBM SERVERAID 6i

I need to install CentOS 5.2 on a IBM Server xSeries 226, which comes with a IBM SERVERAID 6i RAID card. I think it is not a true hardware RAID card. I has, nevertheless, an interesting feature: 128MB of cache with battery backup. I launched the CentOS boot DVD and CentOS correctly identified the card and the RAID 5 array as configured by the controller's BIOS. My question now is: what would be the better way to implement RAID 5 on this server? Should I use the detected array and respective driver or should I delete the array and go for Linus Software RAID? If both solutions are in fact Software RAID, is there any particular reason to prefer one of the methods? I know that Linux RAID will create a universal, more compatible array, readable on any Linux machine. But is there some other reason that makes it preferrable to use the SERVERAID driver provided by CentOS? Is it optimized in any way that recommends its use? Will the controller still make use of its cache and battery backup if configured as a plain SCSI controller with Linux Software RAID? I hope that some more experienced list member can ellucidate me on this. Thank you! PS - The machine is powered by a Intel P4 Xeon processor served by 2.5GB of RAM. The disks are 3 IBM 10K rpm SCSI 320 with 73 GB each.

kickstart install on SAN with multipath

Using CentOS 5.1, though with a few hours work I could update to 5.2.. I can install to SAN with a single path no problem but I'd like to be able to use dm-multipath. From the kickstart docs it seems this is supported but there is no information as to what the various options mean http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.1/Installation_Guide/s1-kickstart2-opti… -- multipath (optional) multipath --name= --device= --rule= -- I have a multipath.conf which works fine when I install to local disk, I'm not sure what I should put in the options above, perhaps something like multipath --name=mpath0 --device=sda --device=sdb --rule= ??? Done tons of searches and can't find anything. Any idea what "rule" would map to in multipath.conf ? I've even installed the anaconda package and grepped through the code and can't find anything useful. thanks nate

I have a bunch of centos 5.2 boxes. I'm trying to run smtp on all of them. Using indentical net-snmp configuration files. /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf com2sec notConfigUser localhost smssnmp com2sec notConfigUser 10.1.1.0/24 smssnmp group notConfigGroup v1 notConfigUser group notConfigGroup v2c notConfigUser view systemview included .1 access notConfigGroup "" any noauth exact systemview none none syslocation SMS - North Carolina syscontact drew.einhorn(a)gmail.com pass .1.3.6.1.4.1.4413.4.1 /usr/bin/ucd5820stat I came up with this config file by tweaking some examples from howto docs on the web, I have not gotten to them point where I feel like I really understand it as well as I should.
