CentOS 5.2 on P5N64

Hi all... First of all, I'm new to this list. Thanks in advance for the help I surely will get here ;) I have installed a CentOS 5.2 64 bit on a computer, and I can't get it to boot. The box is a custom built computer, with this components: - ASUS P5N64 WS Pro motherboard (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) More details here: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=653&l4=0&model=2182&modelme… - Intel Core Quad Q9450 - GeForce GTX 260 - 2x2Gb of 1333 memory - SATA 500Gb hd and SATA DVD (sata ports 1 and 2). I booted with the DVD and installed the system fine, but when I try to boot from the HD, the boot process just stops after inird loading, the kernel doesn't even start. I also tried with the CentOS 5.2 live CD, but it stops claiming that can not find the boot disk ??? Has someone similar problems ? What could I try to boot ? TIA -- J.A. FreeNX Shadowed Desktop issue

Hi All, I'm hoping someone will be able to offer some advice on desktop shadowing with the latest CentOS 4's FreeNX. I've installed the latest FreeNX RPMs as described on the wiki: [james@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa |grep nx nxclient-3.2.0-9 freenx-0.7.3-1.el4.centos nx-3.2.0-8.el4.centos And I can NX in using two separate test user accounts. However when I try to enable shadowing I encounter two problems: 1) The shadow selection dialog doesn't show usernames (the column is simply blank). The result is that you need to know the display number in advance. 2) On choosing a display, I get an error connecting (and an authentication request is never shown on the display being shadowed). I can work around 2 by first doing 'xhost +' on the display which is about to be shadowed. But this isn't ideal... Any ideas / tips / pointers to more documentation appreciated! Setting up eth0 with address 0.0.0.0

Hello, I'm following instructions in http://www.austintek.com/LVS/LVS-HOWTO/HOWTO/LVS-HOWTO.LVS-DR.html#route_on… to allow my xen guest real hosts to serve virtual IP's behind LVS without having to allocate real public IP addresses for each such xen guest. I have eth1 connected via a "back-end" switch to the eth1/xenbr1 of the xen host and the other physical servers, this is the interface that is used by LVS to switch packets over to the real servers. I managed to manually do: # ip route add to <default-router> dev eth0 # ip route add via <default-router> and before that, in order to allow outgoing packets to be sent via eth0, I did: # ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 up and it works great, but when I try to configure this permanently via ifcfg-eth0 it says: Bringing up interface eth0: connect: Invalid argument [ OK ] Things seem to work OK - the server can serve over the Virtual IP, eth0 doesn't have an IP associated with it etc. But I'm worried about this message. Some relevant config files: ifcfg-eth0: To setup the routes, I followed http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Deployment_Guide/s1-networkscripts-st… and http://www.mail-archive.com/centos@centos.org/msg15253.html and put the following in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0: DEVICE=eth0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet IPADDR=0.0.0.0 NETMASK=0.0.0.0 route-eth0: to <router-address> dev eth0 via <router-address> output of "ifconfig eth0": eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:3E:19:E6:97 inet6 addr: fe80::216:3eff:fe19:e697/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2012 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:250 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:174268 (170.1 KiB) TX bytes:47731 (46.6 KiB) So - did I do this correctly and what should I do to fix the error message? kmod-xfs and weak-updates

I installed kmod-xfs-0.4-2 back with kernel-2.6.18-92.1.13. I have updated kernels but there have been no new kmod-xfs. It still works because of weak-updates (I guess). Currently: # find /lib/modules -name xfs.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra/xfs/xfs.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/weak-updates/xfs/xfs.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.17.el5/weak-updates/xfs/xfs.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.18.el5/weak-updates/xfs/xfs.ko My question is: kernel 2.6.18-92.1.13 is now the oldest one present on my system and will be removed next update. Do I need to worry about that? Will it take the remaining kmod-xfs with it? Tony Schreiner

mapserver experience?

close open relay

hi all, running centos 4.7 i686. I seem to have an o pen r elay sendmail server. How do I close it? I have the STRAIGHT centos install sendmail.mc file. Only thing I changed was: dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl so as to allow incoming email and not just localhost. however this seems to relay everyone. I looked at http://www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying but it just talks about (AFIKT) enabling specific relays to occur - not how to CLOSE the relaying. How do I close the relay? Jerry

bluetooth pand help

Help, please. The man pand talks about a /etc/bluetooth/pan/dev-up; there is no such file on any of my Centos systems. I have studied http://bluez.sourceforge.net/contrib/HOWTO-PAN, so I have some of the basics. The only Centos related pand writeup I have found is http://howto.basjes.nl/linux/installing-my-new-server/networking. Should I just copy the dev-up file from there?
