I have HP StorageWorks D2D2500 machine on the way, I wonder if I can put CentOS on the machine then putting Backuppc after or the machine is already ready to use without needing additional software to install. Painfully slow NetApp with databas

Hello, We have long running problem with NetApp filers. When we connect server to the filer sequential read performance is ~70MB/s. But once we run database on the server seq read performance drops to ~11MB/s. That's happening with two servers. One is running Oracle another - MySQL. During speed tests database load is very light (less than 1MB/s of reads and writes). During the tests NetApp was serving only these two servers. What could be causing such slowdown and overall slow read performance? Writes are fast >100MB/s. NetApp support is claiming that such performance is normal. Somehow I do not believe that 2007 model should deliver such XXth century performance levels. :) RHEL4 fully updated 64 bits connected to NetApp FAS3040 via SAN using Qlogic 2Gb/s FC adapters. Tried both drivers from Redhat and QLogic (for NetApp). Also changing of FC parameters (like queue size) did not help. Regards, Mindaugas

Ok this is kind of a goofy question but I want to make sure I get it right. Suppose we have a 25 mb video, that is 117 seconds long. If we wish for this streaming video to play smoothly with no compression, buffering or skipping, the following bandwidth requirements must be met: 25 megabytes = 204800 kilobits. 204800 kb / 117 seconds ~ 1750kb/s Does that look right to you?

yum and /etc/redhat-release

Hi - I used yum to update CentOS 4.6. After the reboot after the upgrade, the file /etc/redhat-release still indicates I'm at CentOS 4.6. The lastest release of CentOS 4 is CentOS 4.7. So how do I use yum to upgrade from 4.6 to 4.7? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Ken -- Article. VI. Cluster Heart Beat Using Cross Over Cable

Hi, I am running two node active/passive cluster running Centos3 update 8 64 bit on Hp Box with external hp storage connected via scsi. My cluster was running fine for last 3 years.But all of a sudden cluster service keep on shifting (atleast one time in a day )form one node to another. After analysed the syslog i found that due to some network fluctuation service was getting shifted.Both the nodes has two NIC bonded together and configured with below ip. My network details: 192.168.1.2 --node 1 physical ip with class c subnet (bond0 ) 192.168.1.3 --node 2 physical ip with class c subnet (bond0 ) 192.168.1.4 --- floating ip ( cluster ) Since it is a very critical and busy server may be due to heavy network load some hear beat signal is getting missed resulting in shifting of service from one node to another. So i planned to connect crossover cable for heart beat messages, can any one guide me or provide me the link that best explains how to do the same and the changes i have to made in cluster configuration file after connecting the crossover cable. apache content rewriting?

I'm using apache with mod_proxy to make the server appear at a different location and port and need to tweak some absolute references in the content as it goes by. mod_proxy_html looked promising - and appears to work - but seems to be making the httpd process consume a lot of CPU on occasion. mod_substitute as included in more recent apache versions should work and mod_sed is another possibility. Has anyone solved this problem with the version of httpd in RHEL/Centos? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Yum loses memory when kernel is upgraded

Centos 5.x Why could this be? After I loaded a xen kernel (by mistake), yum seemed to lose its knowledge of my CentOS version. I had that fixed by "yum install centos-release" (I had first to fix the repo addresses for this to succeed). But after that, I noticed that yum did not remember anymore, what packages were already installed. It seems that the something happens to the rpm databases. I think this is connected to kernel upgrades - that is, every time I update the kernel, the rpm databases are spoiled... (or something). Right now both of these commands: yum list installed rpm --query -a ...produce identical results (for practical purposes). Neither list contains for example amavisd-new, which I'm sure I have installed. Running the installer from working linux

I have a box, with no CD rom or accessible ports and no PXE boot support. I do have root access. I would like to install a fresh copy of Centos 4.
