Correct way to change I/O scheduler in a iSCSI dev

Hi, What's the correct way to change configuration parameters for an iSCSI device? For example I/O scheduler, max_sectors_kb, etc... I could add commands to the S99local script: echo noop > /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler echo 64 > /sys/block/sdb/queue/max_hw_sectors_kb Unfortunately, iSCSI device names might change from sdb to, say, sdc (server reboot, iSCSI target reconnection). If this happens, customizations would be lost or applied to a different device. Any workaround for this using centOS? sysctl, udev, anything else? It also may be applied to Fiber Channel devices.. Looking for a method to keep at least 5% CPU

Hi all, Sometimes, the working threads occupy 100% CPU, and I just cann't ssh login with root. my question is: Is there any solution for this case? I googled and found some related links, but not helpful. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/limit-cpu-usage-for… -- FIXME if it is wrong.

Location of 5.2 .iso without XEN

Subject pretty much says it all. I want the 5.2 without the xen kernel. I've grabbed bits from 2 different mirrors and they all appear to have xen on them. It would be very nice if someone could throw some text into the mirrors file to differentiate the two "versions".. Oh yeah, I need the x86_64 .iso. Thanks Sam

OT - tomcat 6 error

Centos 5.2 install problem

Hi, I'm trying a fresh install on a x86_64 (Supermicro X7dbe, 2xIntel Xeon X5450, 8 GB, 3WARE 9650SE-8LPML, 3 disks in RAID 5). The format takes quite long (2,7 TB), that seems to be normal, but then the first boot will not take place, instead the system loops. Any hints? OT: bash script for passwd and shadow manipulation

Hi, i need to extract some information from the /etc/passwd file to be used as a command input in a mail software. My /etc/passwd looks like: k.thomas:x:1918:100:Kimaura Thomas:/home/users/k.thomas:/bin/usersh My main issue here is that the fifth field contains spaces and spanish chars with accent. I currently do not posess the skill to understand how to use cut to extract all the field. So far, cut returns the name up to the space, so in this case it will return Kimaura and not Kimaura Thomas. Can you please point me to internet examples of tools (sed, awk, grep or cut) that will help me accomplish this, or maybe provide the code? rsync to mirrors failing

I try: rsync -auv rsync://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5.2/updates/i386/ ..... And get rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(614) [receiver=2.6.8] And then, if I keep trying, eventually rsync 'works' and I get my updates. What is causing this?

OT: Testing copytruncate

Hi I am trying to simulate the behaviour when a file gets copy-truncated or any other option selected in logrotate. As a start, I have written a quick script to create values in a file at high rate. #!/usr/bin/perl open FILE, ">testdata" or die $!; for (my $i = 1; $i <= 10000000; $i++){ print FILE "$i\n"; # sleep 1; } close FILE and a logrotate.conf file that rotates the file /home/blah/testfileopen/testdata { copytruncate daily rotate 2 size=10M } It works but the copy truncate messes up the file the application is writing to... or it might be my simplistic perl script. I can't to a head on the testdata file.
