SYD flood dropped on Sendmail (centos 4.x)

My guys, My firewall seems to block an attack my Centos / Sendmail boxes on port 110. These servers require a reboot after each attack. My firewall says it's blocked? Do I need to patch something on sendmail? Or is my firewall not doing its job (Sonicwall)? A working example to use rsyslog as log centralized host

Hi all, Somebody can helps me with rsyslog configuration to use it as a log centralized server?? I am trying several configs without luck, and all examples that I found are related to v3 and nothing about v2 that ships with CentOS or RHEL. I am trying to do something like this: $template DynFile,"/var/log/rsyslog/%HOSTNAME%/secure" if $source != 'localhost' and $syslogfacility-text == 'authpriv' then -?DynFile But this is for version 3 ... and doesn't works ... Force close on unattended SSH/SFTP connections

Dear CentOS people, I'm sure many have faced this before but I can't seem to figure this out. I need unattended OpenSSH and its SFTP connections to be closed after a while (say, in 10 minutes). This needs to override anything that could be done from the client side (ServerAliveInterval or keepalives a program like PuTTY can send). I kind of understand it's not always easy to know when the client side is "unattended," but I'd like to know where people drew the line and what people did in the past. ClientAliveInterval only seem to help reap connections when the client side is unreachable, so this doesn't really help. TMOUT in shell achieves what I want with SSH, but this doesn't help with SFTP. Setting net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_probes to 0 kind of does what I want (ServerAliveInterval ruins it), and I'm not sure if that's generally accepted practice. If this could be achieved in OpenSSH, that would be great, but if it needs to be some other way I'll be glad to find out... Your insight appreciated,

I have an issue with only a few domains sending mail to a company's exchange server. Topology is as follows: Internet -> PIX -> logical interface / vlan -> HP switch (interface tagged into applicable vlan) -> ESXi server -> vm (ASSP/CentOS Postfix MTA) -> HP switch (out of vlan) -> physical HP server with E2003. Mail comes in, ASSP logs it, postfix logs it, queues it, attempts delivery to my exchange server and somewhere com gets mangled. I can't tell what's wrong at the postfix side, but the exchange server doesn't even log it despite the mail getting queued and released? How can I dump this interaction and more specifically sort it to see only that transaction. Server is busy, there would be a lot of data on a continuous dump. Given the topology there is room for much issues and I don't doubt the issue being from ESX forward (seen silly network issues on ESX before). Thanks for any input! jlc

I may be posting to the wrong list here, and in that case I apologize in advance, but is there a way to configure the standard Centos 5 syslog daemon to use more local facilities than local0 to local7? Thank you. -- m

Can't start pand -- is the problem in /etc/rc.d/init.d/pand?

I have been stepping into pand. There is nothing I can find on this list about getting pand working. There are some instructions on wifi.bluez.org that seem to be redhatish, but.... I have edited /etc/sysconfig/pand: PANDARGS='--listen --role GN --master' I have created a /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bnep0: DEVICE=bnep0 BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT=no IPADDR=192.168.201.101 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 I run: service pand start nothing happens. I look at: /etc/rc.d/init.d/pand and see: [ -x /etc/bluetooth/pan/system-up ] && /etc/bluetooth/pan/system-up huh? My system does not have an /etc/bluetooth/pan directory. there is a /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-bnep what am I missing here?

Migration from VMWare to HP Blade

Hi all, A few months ago, I migrated some of our internal servers to HP blades, as the VMWare box they were previously running on was getting too slow. However, it wasn't without it's problems, and eventually the only way I could get them to work was: Install the same version of CentOS on the blade (believed to be 5.0, but /etc/redhat-release says 5.2) Took down both servers, booting them off the SystemRescueCD, mounting all the partition on /mnt/transfer etc Ran rsync to copy all the data from one to the other - except /boot and /lib/modules Brought the blade up, and saw that it booted fine. However, a new kernel has been released and we tried rebooting... And it panicked. It seems to be LVM related, in that it can't mount /dev/root - and I've tried manually running mkinitrd to regenerate the initrd to no avail. I was just wondering if anyone had encountered similar problems, and knew of any solutions? I'm from a debian background, so am a little unused to certain aspects - when a yum upgrade installs a new kernel, where does it pull the information for boot from? A configuration stanza from within grub's menu.lst? Regards, Matthew Walster
