Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...: Connection timed out

Hi ALL, I recently withed from CentOS 3 X server to CentOS 4.5. It works fine other than printers. there are many printers connected to it. We have configured the commnad printconf queue type is Networked UNIX (LPD) Some times, we will be able to print , But, some times, We will NOT be able to print. We can ping its ip address. Even, when we can't print, We can ping its ip address. When we check logs , we see something like this. [Job 888] Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...: Connection timed out Then, What we do is , We go to application, system setting, printing and when we get the window, We click apply button, Then, again, We will be able to print. Could u pls let me know why? But, When We used CentOS 3X, it worked fine. MCP51 sound card can be recognized but can't work

Hi all, I recently install CentOS 5.2 on my Asus Z99M laptop, everything seem to works fine but there is some problem with the sound card. The system can recognized the hardware and I can even run the Realplayer for linux without any error messages, but it can't make any sound, or even noise. I have googled a lot but still can't get it work. Will anyone please guide me to solve this problem, step by step or just give me some reference. I will provide any information needed. Many thanks! http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2008-January/050910.html googling i found some hints related to ubuntu to change some hibernation option in /etc/default/acpi-support but is there some file like that in CentOS 5.2 because when i do "sudo find / -name acpi-support" and supplying my normal user password it does not return anything.

reloading a new kernel

Hi - is it possible to load a SMP version of a kernel on a system running a single CPU version of the kernel without a reboot? For instance, a quad CPU system was accidentally booted as 2.6.9-78.0.5.EL but we need to load 2.6.9-78.0.5.ELsmp instead. Any help would be appreciated. -- Article. VI. how to install yum by apt

Hi all! Becaule i heard that the apt was great,i wanted to try it.And when i tried to update my system,the yum faid,i installed the apt which came from dag repo by yum. After that i did:sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade.There are some problem and i did as apt suggested:sudo apt-get --fix-broken install.Then apt said should remove 11 softwares insclude yum.I thougt even i removed the yum,i could installed it by apt again,so i removed them. After that i found i could not use apt smooth,there were many problem,so i want to install yum again.But apt couldn't find the yum package. Hello guys, recently my mail provider started blocking mails from non-existent domain. We use for internal purposes domain labs.hlacik.eu which exists only in our local DNS servers. Our mailserver is sx1.labs.polarion.com . As we use virtual domains configuration & mailman i want to keep it that way == unchanged myorigin or mydomain. What i want to setup is just masquerading for mails sent from localhost. As example mail from root(a)sx1.labs.polarion.com should be masqueraded to mail from root(a)polarion.com and etc. This is very easy fix in sendmail, but how to do this in postfix - and not to break virtual domains configuration. Unknown device 0581 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32 I/O ports at fc00 [size=16] Capabilities: [b0] Power Management version 2 Which I think is the VIA part. when I do "hdparm /dev/hdc" I get /dev/hdc: multcount = 0 (off) IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) unmaskirq = 0 (off) using_dma = 0 (off) keepsettings = 0 (off) readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 256 (on) geometry = 15733/16/63, sectors = 15858864, start = 0 when I do "hdparm -d1 /dev/dhc" I get /dev/hdc: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = 0 (off) I get operation not permitted. Firefox 3.0.4 and Adobe Flash (CentOS 5 (32bit))

Last night, a visitor was using my daughters box and she was using mine. The web site she was on wanted Adobe Flash or a newer version of Adobe Flash. At that moment, I forgot that I have the Adobe Yum Repository installed. I downloaded the .rpm file from Adobe and when I tried to install it, got a message that a later version is already installed. First thought was the other thread, about Firefox and Adobe for .pdf files. Is this a glitch in the latest version of Firefox we are now using? My box is fully updated. In Add Ons, for Plug Ins, I see Shockwave Flash v. 9.0 r124 and the rest is Mplayer stuff. TIA

(S)VGA is a well-defined set of standards that if a card says it is compatible, the interface is "standard" and the card says it can support those compatible modes. Have you gone into BIOS and seen what is there that might be affecting this stuff? I know there are often selectable modes for video cards. Often in a laptop, main memory is shared with the video card. If you have not allocated enough memory to the video, maybe that is causing a lot of the problems? If you "system" memory is really small, you may not be able to get decent resolution with higher color resolutions. If your BIOS has settings, start off with 4 bit color depth. That gives 16 colors only, but it's a start. Also pick a low resolution, like 640x480 or 800x640(?). Maybe a combination of 4 bit color depth, low resolution, more memory shared with video chip, etc. makes it start working. Oh!
