Does anyone out there have a comprehensive tutorial on installing VMware and successfully managing virtual machines with either xen or vmware?

Fedora user moving to CentOS

Greetings, I'm a Fedora user likely going to switch to CentOS in the next few days. I'm wondering if anyone has some heads up advice for me? I am very familiar with FC6 and before so I anticipate few problems I haven't already seen (and know were fixed). The main reason for the move is so I don't have to re-install so frequently and hopefully not have to deal with so many daily updates. I would use the 'upstream vendor' (respectfully), but I work under no IT $ budget.

md5sum errors in rpms

I just noticed that a couple of the updated RPMS have incorrect md5sums compared to the original email. system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor

I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor. That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver wasn't available for it, I tried telling system-config-display that it is a generic LCD 1280 x 1024 monitor - restarted X, then went back to system-config-display, where it showed up as a CRT monitor. The refresh rate set was way outside the manufacturer's recommendations (1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz). so I tried manually setting refresh rates to match the manual's recommendations. At the moment my xorg.conf has ### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC: Identifier "Monitor0" ModelName "Monitor 1280x1024" ### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC: HorizSync 60.0 - 72.0 VertRefresh 60.0 - 72.0 Option "dpms" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nv" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 16 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection EndSection Attached is the relevant part of the specification page. slow SMTP-AUTH

Hi, I installed sendmail on a centos-4 openvz VM. I set up SMTP-AUTH and when I try to send mail using this server, there is a big delay in which my e-mail client (Mozilla Thunderbird) just hangs. The server, on the other hand, is idle at the same time. It does that no matter if I use no encryption, TLS, or SSL. When the client is 'hung' sendmail, on the server side haven't logged anything yet for this connection. Any idea? Regards, Ugo

HD Failures

I'm just curious if any one else has noticed this. I've bought hard drives from both Walmart and Best Buy. If I can wait, I order them from newegg.com. I'm beginning to think that the staff at both Walmart and Best Buy, somewhere along the supply line must dribble the drives like basket balls. The reason I say that is all the drives I have bought from those two places fail within a few months time. Has anyone else noticed that? Just curious. Jim

how to create a boot up sound / chime for servers?

Nah, RHEL 5.1+ supports 32-bit domU (PAE and non PAE) on 64-bit dom0.
