64 bit and 32 bit are mixed up

Hello I have installed Centos 5.1 on 64 bit servers, and I see some of the packages have been installed two times, one for i386 and one for 64 bits. I don't know why i386 packages can be installed on 64 bit machine and why they should come together, even some times when I am searching yum repository , I see i386 and x64 packages. shouldn't the search result depend on server architecture ?

drbd82 RPMS for testing

All, There are drbd82 RPMS for CentOS-4 and CentOS-5 (i386 and x86_64) for testing here: http://people.centos.org/~hughesjr/drbd/ These are designed to be able to live in the same repository as the current STABLE versions. These RPMS are designed as CONFLICTS and not upgrades as there may be some manual actions to upgrade, especially on CentOS-4. RPM for perl-svn-notify?

Hi List, Is it possible to get an rpm built and added into the plus or dag repos for the perl module svn-notify? (Note: not the same as svn- notify-mirror.) I know it's been brought up before that perl's internal CPAN build/ install can cause serious conflicts with the rpm-based approach; if there are other / better ways of doing this in a standard fashion, please let me know. Seamonkey (with plugins) as Firefox replacement?

Hi, I'm running CentOS 5.1 with the GNOME desktop in all our public libraries around here. I start from a minimal install stripped down to the bones, install X11, GNOME, and then one application per task. I try to follow some best-of-the-breed logic, and my focus lies on robustness to avoid the Tamagotchi syndrome :o) Recently I've been rather disappointed with Mozilla Firefox, which crashes more and more often (this has already been developed elsewhere on this list). On one of my machines, I'm running Slackware Linux 12.0, with an XFCE desktop and the latest Mozilla Seamonkey browser. This browser gives me entire satisfaction: light on RAM, fast, and (almost) never crashes. So the idea is simple: install Seamonkey instead of Firefox. Now I'd like to integrate things cleanly, not install it additionally to Firefox. My main concern now are plugins, namely Flash (flash-plugin) and MPlayer (mplayerplug-in, never knew why that hyphen wandered off :o)). I'd like to do things cleanly, so I have a vague idea. Tell me if this sounds reasonable: 1) Install Seamonkey from latest SRPM. 2) Install flash-plugin from SRPM, but modify the .spec file so it depends on Seamonkey instead of Firefox. 3) Do the same thing with the MPlayer plugin. 4) (I never succeeded to install the Java plugin, I guess I'll leave that for after I'm dead :o/ ) Eventually, create my own repo with the resulting RPMS, and define priorities for Yum so that my own packages are used first. Sounds feasible? Or does someone have a better suggestion? Cheers, Niki

Wireless DELL M90 with CentOS 5.1 - pb with key encryption

Hi, I have a laptop DELL M90 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card. I'm using centOS 5.1 kernel 2.6.18-53 i386. I installed ndiswrapper v 1.52 I installed the driver http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R164255.EXE The wireless-tools is v 28.2 When I trying to connect to my wireless access point with encryption key disabled everything work fine !!!! When I enabled the encryption key on my wireless access point with à 128b WEP it's impossible to connect to it. If I need to connect to the same wifi access with an ancryption key (WEP 128b) it's impossible :-( I receved the message that the laptop cannot get an IP Adress. The same laptop under Windows can connect to the same wireless acces point with encryption key enable ou disable (WEP 128b) The result when Encryption key is off and the laptop is connect. Hi, The command ldd returns $ ldd ./a.out /usr/bin/ldd: line 161: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: cannot execute binary file not a dynamic executable and $ ls -l /lib/ld-linux.so.2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Jan 31 16:57 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -> ld-2.5.so The compat packages are installed (yum install compat*) Any suggestion how can I fix this problem. equota reporting wrong blocks

Hi Friends, I am running samba as domain member of AD 2k3 on Centos 4.4 . Quota of 2GB is set for each user but for one of the user quota or edquota is showing wrong blocks even though disk space occupied by that user is 809M. quota bhavesh.kumar Disk quotas for user bhavesh.kumar (uid 11254): Filesystem blocks quota limit grace files quota limit grace /dev/cciss/c0d0p5 2791832* 2000000 2000000 1595 0 0 # du -sh bhavesh.kumar 809M bhavesh.kumar dumpe2fs /dev/cciss/c0d0p3 |grep -i "block size" dumpe2fs 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) Block size: 4096 I tried quotaoff and quotaon on the /home partition and also mount -all command to remount the partitions but still the problem is persisting. RAM for cluster net boot?

I'm looking at building a small cluster of disk-less 1 or 2U servers and will probably use CentOS 5. Since these machines will not have any hard drives, what would be the minimum amount of RAM I'd need? Also, if using Rocks or something similar, will that help cluster the RAM together so 4 servers x 4 GB RAM each = 16 GB available? Some applications might be CPU intensive, others might be RAM intensive, so I need to play that balance, too. Thanks. Scott

What's the best bet for getting vpnc on v5.1? Compile from cource, DAG repo, other repo? Compiled from source I can't seem to get a response from the target. THANKS, Terry
