I need to launch a job remotely from a Windows machine on a CentOS box, the caveat is that I can't maintain a connection once I have initiated the job. Anyone got an idea how I can accomplish this? Thanks! jlc

Running CentOS 4.6 domUs on CentOS 5.1 dom0 and domUs crash

I have a CentOS 5.1 dom0 running on a machine with two cores and 4gb of memory. It runs three 4.6 domUs and one 5.1 domU. Just out of the blue the other night all the 4.6 domUs crashed, but the dom0 stayed up. I ran xm console (domU-name) and got the Oops information below. I didn't get anything from the 5.1 domU. I think it had been rebooted a few days before and hadn't come up because of a initrd issue. CDRW-DVD Mount Problem, Centos 5.1, Intel board...

I'm having a problem mounting my new CDRW DVD in my new machine I just built. The motherboard is an Intel DP35DP, and I connected the CDRW DVD via ribbon cable into the motherboard IDE slot. Centos 5.1 is installed and functioning fine so far (other than this problem). I can't mount the CDRW-DVD unit. I was able to run cdrecord with the command: cdrecord -v speed=2 dev=6,0,0 -data /home/mydir/Desktop/backup_bootimage.iso to copy a file that I downloaded, apparently the data copy went fine, but when I ejected the CD and then tried to re mount the same CD to read the file, it would not mount. So then I tried mounting the Centos 5.1 distro disk that I used to install the OS, and am having the same problem with the distro disk. If anyone could give me some suggestions or insights I'd appreciate it. I have provided some data below. Centos 5.1 installation problems -- couldn't find devices

Hi, there, I just bought a Dell Inspiron 530 with the following basic configuration: Inspiron 530 Intel Core2 processor Q6600 (2.40Ghz 1066FSB) w/Quad Core Technology and 8MB cache SATA 0: Samsung HD501LJ (500GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive(7200RPM)) SATA 1: PDBS DVD +/- RW DH-16W1S (16X DVD+/-RW Drive) I tried to install Centos 5.1 on it with dual boot (keep Windows XP partition) and got stuck on some strange issues. I hope one of you could shed some light on what I should do next. Here's the summary of my installation attempts. Attempt 1: I burned both an installation DVD (slow and verified) and installation CD #1. I tried them both and both failed due to no driver found. More specifically, at the step for "what type of media contains the packages to be installed?", I chose "Local CDROM", the result screen said "No driver found" and prompted me to Select driver from a list of drivers. I randomly chose a few but none worked. Attempt 2. I tried network installation. I chose "HTTP" when prompted for the media. I then specified the mirror.centos.org<http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/>as the Web Site Name and /centos/5/os/i386/ <http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/> as the Red Hat directory. It got the installation started successfully. However, at the step for partitioning the disk, I was prompted to choose the partition option and I checked the "review and modify partitioning layout". Also, there's no drive shown in the "select the drive(s) to use for this installation" panel. When i clicked Next, a "No drives Found" message popped up, saying "an error has occurred -- no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. please check your hardware for the cause of this problem." It seemed both attempts failed due to the installation program couldn't find either the SATA DVD drive or the SATA hard disk. However, it's hard to believe Centos 5.1 installation couldn't recognize these two SATA devices. I'm now stuck. Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated. -- Regards, -Hui

10Gbit ethernet

If I could ask question about 10Gbit ethernet.... We have a 70 node cluster built on Centos 5.1, using NFS to mount user home areas. At the moment the network is a bottleneck, and it's going to get worse as we add another 112 CPUs in the form of two blade servers. To help things breath better, we are considering building three new NFS servers, and connecting these and the blade servers directly via 10Gbit to a new core switch, the older nodes will stay with 1Gbit ethernet, but be given new switches uplinked via 10Gbit to the core switch. Before I spend a great deal of money, can I ask if anyone here has experience of 10GBit? Dell, HP, Supermicro, IBM (etc..) seem to be pushing the NetXen PCIe cards, so I guess these drivers work...? As to media, although CX4 seems cheaper than optical, I hear the cabling is nasty. And is the magical fairy going to fix 10Gbit over cat6A anytime soon? any thoughts appreciated. Jake --

internal messages problem with postfix

Hello, After a server crash, I re-installed postfix, cyrus-imapd, amavisd-new, spamassassin on a Centos 5.1 box. But, now mail system behaves somewhat different. There is no problem with mail receiving/sending from/to internet. Before the crash, mail system used to sent internal messages to root(a)example.com. But now, I can't receive internal messages as it tries to send them to root(a)server.example.com. I used the same postfix, cyrus-imapd, amavisd-new, /etc/aliases conf files from the previous setup. Must be a configuration issue I overlook. Could anybody please tell me what to check? MySQL 4.1 on Centos 5 ?

Hi All, Could anyone tell me, how to correctly install MySQL4.1 on Centos 5 ? By default Centos 5 comes with mysql5… If I will compile mysql4 from sources to separate prefix, some features may be unavailable (unix sockets for example). I’m moving some critical application (online booking) based on java, tomcat5, mysql4.1 from old server fedora 4 to new server running Centos 5. So, I don’t want update mysql to new version this time.
