Package request: OpenJDK 1.6 packages

Hello, currently the c5-testing repository contains packages for OpenJDK 1.7. The 1.7 branch is the development branch for the upcomming OpenJDK Version 7. OpenJDK is scheduled somewhere in 2009 and for this reason IMHO far away from being stable I'd like to request packages for the currently stable 1.6 branch of OpenJDK. AFAIK the Fedora project has already replaced OpenJDK 1.7 by OpenJDK 1.6 in rawhide for the same reason. -- Heiko Adams <heiko.adams(a)gmail.com>

kickstart LANG issue

i sent this to the kistart list also - but i thought i may try my luck here also ;) Hi In my kix file i have LANG set to the following lang en_GB langsupport --default=en_GB en_GB however on install the box is # env | grep LANG LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 # cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n LANG="en_GB.UTF-8" SUPPORTED="en_GB.UTF-8:en_GB:en" How can i make it so the default LANG is en_GB and not UTF-8 ? thanks

Graphical frontend for gphoto2? (Handling photo cameras in XFCE)

Hi, I'm using CentOS 5.1 with the latest XFCE-4.4 desktop. I try to stick as much as possible to the UNIX tools philosophy, one app per task. For viewing images, I installed GQView. But right now, I wonder what I could probably use for handling photo imports from digital cameras. GThumb tends to be very unmodular, e. g. drawing in many GNOME dependencies, and besides that, I already have an image browser, so I don't need another one. Under Slackware, I've been using GTKam, a simple GTK frontend to gphoto2, which did the job just fine. But I'm surprised to find it nowhere, not in RPMForge, not in FreshRPMs. All I can find on the web is a few stale .spec files on some obscure SVN repos. Well, I can always try to grab one of these, and see if I can manage to build an RPM from the "latest" version: 0.1.14, dating from december 2006. Which makes me wonder whether this piece of software is perfect or abandoned... Before launching into building GTKam on my own, I'd like to ask: what graphical frontends for digital cameras can you use *besides* GThumb and Digikam (that is: if you're using neither GNOME nor KDE)? Is there some obscure GIMP plugin that I might have overseen? Cheers, Niki

Installing Siemens Samba 75 modem(MC75) on CentOS 5

I recently bought an edge modem and I need help on how to install it on CentOS 5. I tried working my way round it by installing windows as a virtual machine and then installing the modem but it kept on telling me that the USB device has malfunctioned. When I install on Windows XP based computer (no VM) it works fine. Any help out there?

recompiled mod_perl insists on old perl dependency

Hello, In order to overcome a known performance bug in perl-5.8.8-10 in centos 5 (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=196836) I downloaded the perl package from fedora 8 (http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Fedora/source/SR…) and mod_perl (http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Fedora/source/SR…) and compiled them on an x86_64 machine following instructions from http://sial.org/howto/rpm/. The perl-5.8.8-30 installed fine but when I try to install the new mod_perl it insists on installing perl-4:5.8.8-10.el5_0.2.i386: Dependencies Resolved ============================================================================= Package Arch Version Repository Size ============================================================================= Installing: mod_perl x86_64 2.0.3-14 threatmetrix 5.5 M Installing for dependencies: perl i386 4:5.8.8-10.el5_0.2 updates 12 M Going ahead with this complains about conflicts with the installed perl-5.8.8-30. What can I do to fix this? Is anyone here is aware of another way to get a fixed version of perl for CentOS 5? Thanks, --Amos

Question relating to yumdownloader

Hi I use yumdownloader occasionally to grab RPMS. One thing that confuses me though is the --source option. I thought this would mean rather than getting the RPM that it would retrieve the source RPM. But it appears this isn't the case. Can anyone explain what this option actually relates to ?

Bill: FWIW, I use Evolution daily on CentOS 5 for IMAP email. Recently, I have been having problems, trying to close Evolution. Yesterday I updated Evolution, via the update icon in the lower right hand corner of the GNOME desktop for "pup" the Package Updater. So far, I am not having the problem closing Evolution. :-) I did *not* update the evolution-data-server package yesterday. Good luck on a quick and easy solution! Lanny

KOrganizer problems

My file/print/mail server is CentOS. My laptop is Mandriva 2008.0. I have smb shortcuts loaded by fstab to give instant access to my home directory and a data directory on the server. All was working well, after some initial problems with firewall and selinux, until yesterday. After finding from the logs that someone was trying to get into my imap server I decided that, although they hadn't succeeded, my personal login was too weak, and I should harden it. I changed the password on the server, as user and as smbuser, then on the laptop. My fstab mounts work perfectly with the adjusted auth.servername.anne file, and I can read my mail, but I use a diary on the server, and I'm having problems there. The reminder daemon that should start when kde initialises tells me that it can't access the diary. It's not clear exactly what is happening to korganizer within kontact. I can see the diary, and reloading it doesn't blank it out, yet I get the message that access is denied. Attempting to run a test entry brings the denial message, but the entry shows, even after a shutdown and reload. The reminder, however, doesn't happen. I should also say that since I changed the password on my laptop's kdewallet, that does not show in the taskbar. If I enter 'kdewalletmanager' in a konsole it shows in the taskbar, and indicates that the wallet is open. I'm not sure how this is connected with the korganizer problem, but I feel it must be. I have looked through every log file I can, and can't see any reason for this. selinuxtroubleshooter doesn't show me anything relevant. I'm completely stuck for where to look next. CentOS 5 Evolution Update errors.

Folks, Evo update on my 4.x worked just fine. 5.0 generated a bunch of parsing errors preceded and followed by a couple of I/O errors that appear related to an unavailable URL. I first figured corruption on my node, so I yum erased evo, its - connector and -webcal units. The data-server removal looked as if it might remove half my Gnome desktop, so I left it in place. Then I did a selective reinstall. The edited results follow. I believe the very first error is the cause. I erased and installed multiple times, even trying the connector plugin figuring maybe it was needed to download files from a website. No-go. I was able to wget the docbook w/NP. Any suggestions? Not critical, I only run evo on my 4.X. But I've begun a slow and careful migration to my 5.0, letting it serve as back up for now.
