AM/FM tuner for centos 4 or 5?

Looking for a radio tuner for my audio server. Needs to do AM. CentOS 5 based distribution

I've been trying to create a Linux distribution based on CentOS 5, similar to (actually, exactly like) how CentOS is based on RHEL. I have been unable to find any information about this. Most of what I find are tutorials and instructions on using Kickstart. Sometimes I've found allusions to doing this, but nothing that gives all the instructions necessary to modify Anaconda (or other files) sufficiently. I have found an excellent walkthrough ( http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/ublinux/) on creating a distribution based on RHEL 4. While following the instructions I have found that not everything is in exactly the same place when using CentOS 5, but the descriptions are close enough that I have been able to figure it out and create a mostly "rebranded" install DVD. One thing that the above walkthrough does not explain is how to change all the text and images (it points to most of the images) and the default "packages". By that I mean the screen where the installer asks what additional tasks I would like the system to include support for: i.e. Desktop - Gnome, Server, Server - GUI, etc... I have been unable to find where this information, and some of the other text the installer uses (for example, "Searching for CentOS installations"), is stored. I've greped the entire DVD (including the expanded stage2.img file), but cannot find this text anywhere. Is the information stored in a compiled executable? If so, which executable will I need to recompile? Thanks.

recommendations for copying large filesystems

I need to copy over 100TB of data from one server to another via network. What is the best option to do this? I am planning to use rsync but is there a better tool or better way of doing this? For example, I plan on doing rsync -azv /largefs /targetfs /targetfs is a NFS mounted filesystem. Any thoughts? TIA

Trash under sudo

5.0, 5.1, 5.2 history/diff?

Is there a detailed history/diff of what 5.1 adds/removes/changes from 5.0, and the same for 5.2 from 5.1 and 5.0? I checked around the centos.org but couldn't obviously find this. Thanks. Scott

centos 5.2 for real this time

I did a yum update last night at about 23h15 EDT (-4). No upgrade. I just did a yum update this morning at about 08h45 (-4). for my system there's about 348 megs of updates. Now all I have to do is figure out how to remove OO.o 2.0.whatever which is being upgraded to 2.3.whatever. I'm using 2.4.1 on my 4.6 boxes (have always been using the latest OO.o on them since installation a couple of years ago.) Any ideas on how to completely remove the OO.o references for Yum, after having tried to do rpm -Uvh *.rpm, after trying again and doing a yum cleanup, etc. etc.?

I have recently moved from Trac to Redmine for project management (and I strongly recommend that you consider this as an alternative to Trac, it is far more powerful to use and much easier to set up) but I had/have exactly the same problems that you are facing. The difficulty is that Trac has a DBMS backend, usually MySQl but in my case PostgreSQl. This complicates the issue since it is not enough to simply tar up the application site. What I ended up doing was building a hot site spare server to accommodate all of these types of applications (Trac project management, subversion repositories, drupal user cms sites, imapd user mailboxes, avantfax fax archives). Then, for applications that employed a database backend, I setup regular cron jobs to dump the backend databases into a ./dbdump directory that I added to the root of each site's file system. I added an rsync command to the end of the dump command to then move the entire site to the backup box at the end of the dump. On the backup machine I added a cron job to reload the database from the dump. This entails some background work to set up. You must initialize and configure the appropriate DBMS on the backup server with the requisite databases and database owners. You must ensure that the application's users and groups are properly replicated there. You may need to install and configure the application itself. You may need to configure apache if the application uses a web frontend, like Trac. You need to setup SSL host to host root authentication for rsync. And there are no doubt several other little things that need to be accommodated but that I no doubt have forgotten. However, what this gives you is a hot site backup that a simple change to DNS can enable. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. SME on CentOS, telnet and MySQL

After failing to install on two different machines that were running Windows, I realized that one machine had a bad hard-drive, and the other bad memory. So I've collected the good parts into one machine and installed CentOS with SME. This was the fastest install of Linux I have every seen, 15 minutes done, configured, and running, web and email server. It is a very secure config, no GUI -- just a server. One problem: MySQL and Telnet can't be accessed remotely, ports not open, allow/deny files, something. I've searched the internet and hacked around for hours, can't get these services to work remotely. Anyone here have experience with the SME/e-smith admin tools? By default SME doesn't install Telnet on port 23, only ssh on port 22. So I ran a yum install for telnet, manually started it. I get a response from port 23, but connection refused. Mysql does come installed with SME, however local connections only. I can run mysql client on the command line on the SME.CentOS server, queries work fine, but not remotely. I am using Windows Vista as a client workstation, Programmer Studio (Whisper Technology) that requires a generic telnet server, and the freeware version of Toad to connect to the MySQL server. Any help to weaken the security on SME to allow remote telnet and MySQL connections will be very much appreciated! -- Michael Anderson, J3k Solutions Sr.Systems Programmer/Analyst 832.515.3868
