rsyslog and imuxsocks

Hi folks, I have installed rsyslog and rsyslog-mysql from the base repository, but the loadable module "imuxsocks" seems not to be part of these packages. Does this have a certain reason? And is there any other way to get this module besides compiling rsyslog on my own? Any hint or help is appreciated. Dirk

RPM Uninstall

I am wanting to uninstall an rpm off my CentOS 4.6 box. Namely caching-nameserver. Is there anywhere I can look at the uninstall script to see what it all does on its way out? Matt

CentOS 5.2 -- how do I choose a wireless network?

Hi. We have a Windows laptop that has gotten too slow, it's borderline unusable, so I burned a CentOS 5.2 32-bit Live CD, just to try it out in the home. It boots up fine, but it does not connect to the Internet... Now we normally connect through a wireless network, there are several around here -- on the Windows box we choose the network to which to connect... but on CentOS there is no such menu? I went to Administration -> Network, and enabled the wireless interface, set to Auto and to DHCP, but it said, unable to assign IP address, and no connectivity... How do I connect to a wireless network, please? Thanks, Aleksey

Is very Easy. DVI + VGA?

I have an LCD monitor with both VGA and DVI connectors on it, and a video card to match (both connectors). If I want to switch from the VGA (currently in use) to the DVI, do I need to do anything special other than switch wires? I didn't see anything in google that was helpful (though I may not have used a smashing search...). Thanks. mhr

rsync question

Hi All, I am trying to understand the purpose of rsyncd. Why does it exist? Why not just use rsync ad-hoc or via script? Also, to a more serious note. I need to keep a filesystem on 1 server and another server synced by. What is the best way to do this? I want to have /source and /target to be exactly the same. I don't want any extra files in /target. I want the timestamps to be the exact same in /target. Does anyone have a good rsync arguments I can use? I have been using -avzl but I was wondering if there was anything better. TIA

64bit vs 32bit

I am upgrading a server that mounts in a rack. Its going on the cheapest socket 775 CPU I can buy and in a 1u rack case. All its for is keeping some log files and doing some simple MYSQL/PHP database stuff. Not a work horse at all. Anyway, is it better to go 64bit or 32bit for the CentOS 5.x install? I do not see needing huge amounts of RAM or anything like that on this box. Would the 32bit version be more tried, proven and stable? Matt
