Does software raid 1 compare checksums or otherwise verify that the same bits are coming from both disks during reads? What I'm interested in, is whether bit errors that were somehow undetected by the hardware would be detected by the raid 1 software. Thanks, Nataraj

setting timezone from kickstart

Hi all, I used to do manual installs so I would set the timezone each time. I have now migrated to kickstart and I wish to use a command line (at boot) parameter to set the needed timezone. I am familiar with timeconfig and that works. I tried timeconfig --help (looking for command line arguments) and there appears to not be a command line way that I see to set the timezone. I have seen mention of changing symbolic links and stuff - but I was hoping for a system command to change the timezone. Like "timeconfig --zone Denver" or "timeconfig --zone Mountain" something like that. Is there something like that or do I have to use the symbolic links? Thanks, Jerry

scp and key login

It seems the certificate-based login doesn't work on both sides of the remote connection when using scp? Scenario: User on PC A can SSH login to PCs B and C with his certificate, no password prompt. When User on PC A runs a scp operation from B to C he's asked for the password on C. Does the scp actually open a connection from B to C (User doesn't have a certificate on B)? This would explain the problem. I hoped to avoid such a problem by scping from a third machine that normally has certificate-based access to all machines. mount UFS partition on CentOS 5.

Hi Dears, I am having trouble mounting a partition with UFS file system (FreeBSD), I am trying to build with the following commands: mount-r-t-o ufs ufstype = ufs2 / dev/hdb1 / part mount-r-t-o ufs ufstype = 44bsd / dev/hdb1 / part But appears the following error message: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on / dev/hdb1, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg anybody have any idea? Broken pipe, x86_64 CentOS 5.2

Hi All, I have a problem with torque (openPBS) on x86_64 CentOS 5.2. Just to add there's no problem on a 32bit CentOS 5.2 or 64bit Ubuntu 8.04. Okay, Yahoo is bumming me. Only system my mail is having an issue with. All mail is accepted, but junked. I can only think it is the DKIM/Domain keys. It is apparent that the dkim-milter is not part of the centos 5.x distro nor is it part of the mirrors, as far as I can tell. So...have any of you done it with your servers for sendmail? There are some sites that claim to have rpms and I have downloaded the tar from sendmail. But I would rather hear from anyone who has an opinion before I go with one or the other. I do not trust any rpms except for their mirrors, so not sure if I want to do that. But maybe it is fine. Open to suggestions, ideas for what works for you and yahoo. No, I do not want to install postfix, thank you - /ninja'd ya

OT - Monitoring tool

Hello everyone, While I know this isn't Centos related, you guys seems to be on top of your game around here. Sorry for the off-topic. I'm looking for a tool to monitor my servers and send either an email or page or both when something breaks. I would like it to monitor all sorts of services on the servers with one small detail, I'd like it to be able to confiugre so if the DBA need something monitor that is hosted on a shared system that they can only change what they are responsible for and not something else that is being monitored on that system. Configure an ATI Radeon X1200 card?

Hi, I want to configure X on a NEC PC with an ATI graphic card. Usually, I do that by hand, e. g.: # init 3 # X -configure --> first draft # mv xorg.conf.new /etc/X11 Then I edit this with Vi, step by step. Usually, this works, but not for ATI cards. Here, the first draft only gives me a "vesa" driver... though xorg-x11-drv-ati is installed. But then, when I replace Driver "vesa" by: Driver "ati" I get a "No screens found" error. Until now, I've successfully configured dozens of different video cards, mostly Intel and NVidia (old and new), and also a few ATI cards (with the opensource driver). But this is the first ATI card that gives me trouble. Any suggestions? Niki
