how to make gnu-make stop when using embedded makefiles

Hello I apologise for this question not concerning directly CentOS. On all Linux distribution the only makefile tool is gnu-make. Do somebody know how to make gnu-make stop when an error occurs during a compilation using embedded makefiles ? Thanks François Colonna

BackupPC newbie: a couple more questions

1. I'm running - or trying to run - BackupPC under Centos-5.2, and have been looking at various BackupPC HOWTOs and tutorials. I see that the "Falko" tutorial at <http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_backuppc> recommends (on page 3) that one should enter one's username, "falko" in this case, as the user in /etc/BackupPC/hosts . Other tutorials suggest one should use the user "backuppc", who was indeed created by "yum install BackupPC". 2. This tutorial also suggests at one point that when exchanging SSH keys one should login to the BackupPC server as backuppc . "Yum install BackupPC" did indeed create a user backuppc on the server, but the entry in /etc/passwd reads backuppc:x:101:104::/var/lib/BackupPC:/sbin/nologin so I cannot login as (or su to) backuppc . Problem setting up diskless boot.

OK, I did this once, several years ago, but I have to do it again, and I cant figure out what this stupid error message is trying to say. I am executing system-config-netboot trying to create a diskless client for a diskless boot I constantly get a popup, with different error messages. I try to 'fix' something, and I get a different popup. The current one says: You must enter directory of the Operating System Software This directory must include the images/pxeboot directories [Errno ftp error] 550 Failed to change directory. Now there is nowhere to ENTER the directory of the OS Software, the popup asks for Operating system identifier Description Select protocol for installation Kickstart Sotware Server IP Address Location So Im at a loss what to do. Anyone done this recently and know WHAT THIS THING IS ASKING FOR??? Reg.Clemens reg(a)dwf.com

OT-ish: GPG problem

I'm asking here because it is the best resource I know for knowledgeable people. The problem in question occurs on my Fedora 9 box and Fedora 10 netbook, while another person, Chris, has the problem on a Mandriva 2009 box. Whatever is causing it, that leads me to think that it's not distro-specific. Both of us are using kmail. Kgpg sees and lists all the keys on my keyring. Setting up cryptography for kmail on the boxes in question is where the problem lies. KMail does not appear to be seeing the keyrings. When you try to select your key, the list is empty. If you type in the key ID and ask it to fetch the keys you get an endless back and forward progress bar. As an experiment, on my F10 netbook I renamed the ~/.gnupg folder and recreated it by logging in. I did not copy my keyrings across. I then asked for my key to be imported, and that completed correctly. I then turned to KMail, but still my key could not be seen or used. I think that that experiment rules out any possibility that I had introduced the problem by copying in config files and keyrings from previous versions. Can anyone suggest further lines of enquiry? Hi,all,i seted the encoding of vim in order to display chinese well.Because when i opened source files programed by myslfe,the chinese can't display well.My locale is zh_CN.UTF-8,here is the contents of .vimrc: let &termencoding=&encoding set fileencodings=utf-8,gbk,ucs-bom,cp936 After this ,will it break the system files when i edit the system files by vim?

Crash with qemu: 5.2 host and 5.2 guest

Hi, I'm trying to install a CentOS 5.2 guest with virt-manager/qemu on a CentOS 5.2 system (X86_x64, 3ware 9650SE, 2 x Intel VT capable xeon cpus, 8 GB) Unfortunately I'm getting a crash in the guest install process. (see crash text below). Other systems are installing smoothely, even Windows xp, but the above combination won't install (5.2/5.2). What works well: CentOS 5.2 xen unmodified (i.e. fully virtual) guest, but no luck with qemu/kvm. Here's what I already tried, all without success: * kernel-xen kernel from centosplus * this kernel: http://people.centos.org/hughesjr/kernel/5/bz443853/x86_64/ * installed a minimal 5.1 * updated the 5.1 with Johnny's kernel * updated the 5.1 with yum update Have you got any idea on how I can get this installed? OT: (a) Biostar or MSI mainboard? (b) all Celeron CPU's OK?

(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself. I looked at two (2) very low end Desktop mainboards in the store. The one that seems the most interesting is the Biostar P4M890-M7 TE (a Socket LGA 775 board). If possible, I would like to verify that CentOS 5 (32 bit) will work properly, out of the box, or with very simple changes. The Chipset is shown as VIA P4M890/VT8237A. The Graphic chip is shown as Unichrome Pro I GP. The NIC chip shown as Realtek RTL8201CL PHY and the Sound Codec is ALC662. It has two (2) PCI slots and I have NICs and Sound Cards I can install, if the onboard stuff doesn't work on Linux. The Graphic is something that must work, out of the box. Searching on CentOS.org I saw things about Realtek NIC chips, but sounds like they can be made to work. Comments on the probability of this mainboard working OK, or not, are most welcome! I have downloaded the Biostar documentation for this mainboard. This mainboard has support for EIDE, which I need for my HD, DVD-ROM and CD-RW drive. (it has IDE & SATA controllers). The other mainboard is the MSI P6NGM-L (MS-7366 Ver. 1.0). This one has NVIDIA GeForce7050 / nForce610i. Video is the NVIDIA GeForce 7050. I am not sure if it has support for EIDE. For Storage Devices, they show PATA and SATA. Will either of those support EIDE? I have much less information about this mainboard. Audio chip is Realtek ALC888. LAN chip is Realtek 8201CL. Both of these mainboards are available locally, and I will not need to order from the states. I am leaning very strongly to the Biostar, and very interested in comments from anyone with experience with these boards, which will be much appreciated. (b) Planning to use a Celeron 2.0 GHz (Retail) CPU. Will CentOS 5 (32 bit) run on all Celeron's? This Dell Dimension 2400 has a 2.6 GHz Celeron and ran well, until the mainboard problem..... "General Error" in Firefox (CentOS 5.2) Video

This is a new instalation of CentOS 5.2 When I go to FireFox and try to watch a Video clip, some files transfer, and then I get the message "General Error" in the video window. I ASSUME some additional software needs to be downloaded, but what from where? Unable install ffmpeg

Hi, I installed ffmpeg using yum, and then tried to convert a asx video to flv it says unable to find encoder x264, eventhough it is installed and I am able to view it when I check ffmpeg --help.Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue? Thanks and Regards Marky

kcapid heavy cpu usage

Hi, We are running java application on centos4 update 5 64 bit on sun blade x6250 hardware.But for the last couple of days we observed that kacpid daemon eating more cpu.Attached the top output below.Can any one suggest me how to fix the same since it is my critical production i need your help urgently .
