I deleted the modes ahead of 1280x1024 and it's working. :-) I'd contemplated removing those modes, but better with your 2 cents! I believe that system-config-display works OK on my box (Dell Dimension 2400 with integrated Intel everything on the mobo), but that's my old box (now daughters) and it has an Nvidia video card, which I suspect is not supported well by system-config-display. I remember having this problem 2 or 3 years ago. Lanny

Question on script

Hi all, I am trying to extract from the aplay -l output the Card and Device numbers. I had a script that was working but found another motherboard that has an EXTRA word. HDA Nvidia and HDA ATI HDMI is what I am talking about below. how do I search for a line that has HDMI (which I know how to do), then ignore everything upto the device work and take the next field after that? question on /etc/defaults

My colleague, doing the HIPL development, principally uses ubuntu and although he is now building the Fedora/Centos rpms for me, he leaves much of the testing to me..... Anyway for any kernel prior to 2.6.27, I have to run the hip code in userspace, not kernel space. This is due to the ESP BEET patch. There is a specific hipd for userspace, but the hipfw requires a different option. For a while, everytime I would get a new rpm, I would have to modify /etc/init.d/hipfw to add this to OPTIONS. Then we added support for /etc/defaults/hipfw to have the OPTIONS. Worked just fine in ubuntu so he released it. And things stopped working for me in Centos. After some fiddling, I finally figured out that /etc/defaults/hipfw was NOT being processed for its one line: OPTIONS= This is exactly the same line that is in the /etc/init.d/hipfw, but with the added value. Does anyone have experience with /etc/defaults and perhaps shed light on what might not be working?

mod_bandwidth

Is there a compiled mod_bandwidth rpm in CentOS or EPEL? I can't seem to find it, what name does it use if there is one? Basically all I need to do is find a way to severely throttle apache for testing an upload progress bar - my bandwidth on my lan is too fast, the progress bar either only gets one update or none by the time the files are uploaded (5 8 megapixel jpegs) - even when I use my laptop over wireless - so I need to limit the bandwidth apache accepts severely to simulate real world conditions. I assume mod_bandwidth can limit the post bandwidth as well (what apache eats)?
