Inquiry:Problem installing application on Cent OS

Dear All Please be informed that I tried to install the "Real VMX" application on my Cent OS client . I setup the environment variables and build kernel . Then I add the following entry to my /boot/grub/menu.lst : title Real VMX rootnoverify (hd0,0) kernel -type=netbsd /vmx I tried to reboot my Cent OS client and at the boot loader when I select "Real VMX" I got the following error : "Error 1 : File name must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist" Can you please do me favor and let me know how can I overcome ? xen guest system - install source

I am installing my first xen system (CentOS 5.3). The host system seems to be ok. I am following this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-xen-on-centos-5.2-i386-p2 Now I try to use virt-install to install the first guest system, but I cannot find a working install source. I have tried at least these: http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/mirrors/centos.org/5.3/isos/i386/ http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/mirrors/centos.org/5.3/isos/i386/CentOS-5.3-i386-ne… Always I get "Could not find an installable distribution". Rendering farm?

I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent insight. What can list participants offer on this concept? I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine, cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money, and permit the users to get the results they need, when and how they need it. If a desktop solution can be implemented in multiuser farm environment, that would be great. Just provide links/resources to help me get better educated. Who knows, maybe others on the list would benefit from the discussion and results, too. If it makes most sense to migrate the money from a single desktop to a transparently available farm that does the same job the desktop could have done, and considering the farm is expandable, then I'm all for it, as would be the money people! Insights and educated welcome! Scott

Hello z00dax, any update about this issue? As i can see, in centos 5.3 the version of php still 5.1.6. Did you have any ETA to php 5.2.0 be moved to release repo? 10 Year old IT Infrastructure

Hi Guys, I have a client who hopes to keep their server another 5 years making it 10 years old at that time. At this point there are no plans to add new infrastructure or a new server to the mix. Their business model is fairly static. I'd like to see them upgrade. Can anyone suggest specific reasons why running a business on 10 year old equipment is a bad thing? Specific arguments I can think of would be: - Hard/Impossible to find replacement hardware - Lack of support for both H/W and S/W - Possibly unable to run current versions of CentOS - Higher probability of hardware failures over time - Performance bottlenecks Any other thoughts? SVN hell!

Hi! I'm trying to install SVN on a latest version of CentOS (5.3). Launch applications on GNOME startup ?

Hi, I just installed and configured Conky, and I'd like to automatically launch it whenever I start a GNOME session. I expected to see some sort of Preferences>Launch Applications on Startup, some user-specific equivalent of rc.local, but there doesn't seem to be such an entry. Any suggestions? Niki

Resolv.conf with multiple adaptors on multiple networks

Hi All, I did a clean install of CentOS 5.3 yesterday. During setup I activated both adapters on startup. etho is my public IP and eth1 is my private/internal IP. It did not let me specify nameservers though. So I know this is resolv.conf. I know I put in: nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx But how do I put in nameservers for specific networks? Example, I want my public IP to resolve to the comcast name-servers top get out to things like Google. I want internal to default to my internal DNS once I have it setup. -Jason
