Hello
I seem to be getting some messages via email and in var/log/messages as
well, i think its a hard drive gone bad but was wondering if anyone has
seen something similar to this or would have some ideas if its fixable
or not, here are the messages

hi,
i made a mistake that i used centos5.4 i686 to upgrade the centos 5.2 x86_64,which runs on a server whose cpu is Xeon. The server seems to need CentOS X86_64 version. Should i use the CentOS 5.4 X86_64 disk to upgrade the CentOS 5.4 i 686?
Ps.I urgently need to upgrade it because the glibc x86_64 conflicts with the i686 one....It drives me crazy and i am hitting my head against the wall...
Should that work well?Should i try that? Please help to let me move on with my life....
Thanks very much!

Hi list,
I just did my daily news scan and saw some screenshots that illustrate
the press release [0] announcing the first collisions at the LHC. Those
screenshots show windows and buttons that exactly match my CentOS GNOME
Desktop [1]. AFAIK, SuSE/Novell has different skins, as has
(Open)Solaris and AIX, for instance.
So, has there anybody more information on this? Would make a nice
success story for CentOS!
Best,
Timo

So above shows the original problem and then me restarting it and
eventually I had to reboot the server. Since then it has been behaving
bizarrely with it running for 5 mins and then stopping, upon a restart
it will run for a while and then stop.

I haven't found a report of an issues for the "nfsdcb: id '-2' too
big!" message but equally I don't know what it means either.
On the console we are seeing loads of these messages:-
kernel: NFSD: preprocess_seqid_op: magic stateid!
Again I don't know what this means or the implications of this message.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
At the moment we are up with two users migrated back to the old servers.
Thanks
Phil.

Is it possible you have an application that runs at odd times that is compiled for the wrong arch? IIRC the C3 is i586 compatible (almost i686 but missing something stupid like 'cmov' instruction). I've got a handful of C3 based systems in my personal lab and run into 'oddities' every now and then because of this...

Does anyone else have one of these on 24/7 running RHEL 5.4 or Centos 5.4 ??
That box mysteriously stops ( no crash data, it just stops) hours or days after boot, with or without X.
Cntl-Alt-Delete reboots it without power cycling. The usual diagnostics (memtest and fsck) return no
errors. Works great until it freezes. No evidence of kernel oops anywhere.
If others report the same issues we will scrap the board. Otherwise I will continue to investigate what
is happening, since it is no fun to pull the board out and replace with an atom processor and it is not
critical.
The hard disk in it came from an Athlon M board that died an untimely death this week. Service
cpufreq reports "unavailable" so I am assuming that it is turned off. Could the cpu freqquency control
be doing something without tellling us?
We havea power monitor on it so I can discern if it dies with max cpu activity or not. Also I am leaving
it run "top" without screensaver so I can see if a particular load or program is borking it. Am I missing
something obvious here?
TIA.

Hello all,
As the subject states, I have a 3Com 3c940 Ethernet card to a 1 gb network
switch. The switch detects it, but it only shows that it is giving me 100
mb/sec throughput. That card is rated for 1 GB...is there a way to force
it to try to use 1 GB/sec? System-config-network isn't helping me here.
Thanks for any help!
