real SATA RAID

Hi Last week I had a lengthy thread in which someone indicated the my SIL card is a FRAID (don't know if F stands for the F word or Fake, though it doesn't really matter). I want to replace the controller with a controller that Linux will see the RAID1 group as a single HD and not multiple HDs as it happens with the SIL controller. Recommendations anyone? -- TIA Paolo

CentOS promotion

I've been to FOSDEM this weekend and noticed the small number of CentOS people at the booth. The Ubuntu people work with Local Community Teams to support and promote the distro. I think it would be beneficial for CentOS to setup a similar structure. At the moment it's mostly sysadmins who introduce/sneak CentOS into businesses. Local Community Teams can setup a booth at computer fairs and other events. This way the general public (small businesses, non-profit organisations, schools, ....) are exposed to CentOS.

Dear All, Currently i have using CentOS4.4 and Kernel Version is 2.6.9-42.EL. I want to upgrade my Linux to Stable Version of Linux (CentOS4.7) Clarification required about Linux upgrade is 1. How do i upgrade my Linux and is their any document is available 2. Where can i download the upgrade Linux iso 3. Whether i can upgrade my Linux PC without any configuration data loss Example : http configuration, xinetd configuration, etc... OFF Topic - Looking for web based file management application for law firm & clients

Hi All: I am working with a law firm that would like to offer to it's clients the ability to access their documents through a web interface. This would require a nice gui to offer the clients with a simple process for the clients to download from. It would also need to be secure (authentication & SSL), and mandatory disclaimer acceptance before logging into their account. Anyone with experience or thoughts on this matter? Thanks, Ed

AHCI support in CentOS 5.2?

My friend has an external sata hard disk, and likes the hot-plug feature. However, that works only if the appropriate sata setting in the motherboard bios is set to AHCI (IDE compatibility and RAID are two other options, but hot-plugging doesn't work with them). The machine has WinXP atm, while Linux is about to be installed in the following couple of days. Now, on wikipedia I read that AHCI is supported starting from kernel 2.6.19 and later, while current CentOS 5.2 has 2.6.18. Is it possible to make AHCI work under 2.6.18 or should I install Fedora instead? Fedora will become obsolete in a year or so, and I will not be around to reinstall it again for him, so I would prefer a long-term solution (CentOS). But I need to be sure that it can be made to do all that fancy hot-plug-auto-mount-sata-ahci stuff without too much hassle. Oh, btw, I am talking about hot-plugging using the sata cable --- usb connection of course already works, but this is a hard disk and speed increase is highly nontrivial when using sata connection compared to usb. Any suggestions? Thanks! :-) Marko

sound problem

Hi I have CentOS 5.2 installed on a computer (the same one that I just posted a message on: Intel DG33BU motherboard) and for even though audio is reported to be found and working Linux just doesn't play anything through the speakers. The computer dual boots Linux/Windows and when in Windows sound works great, so it's strictly a Linux problem. Can anyone try and help me find out where the problem is and resolve it. -- TIA Paolo
