3rd party DNS

Please reply off list as this is ot from CentOS. Just looking or a recommendation of a 3rd party DNS provider (my client prefers free) with a web based control pannel (I doubt there is any other way). One of the important features is being able to set the ttl levels. I just have not used any, so I am not sure what to recommend to them. Thanks in advance. D

Write to end of disk

How can I write to the end of a disc such as dd would with a large seek quickly instead of reading/seeking to the end? Thanks! jlc

USB Thumb Drive Confusion

I am running CentOS 4.7. I have a USB flash (thumb) drive that has a bunch of files placed there by Windows. I plugged it into the CentOS machine, and when I listed the files under "/media/usb-name", there was nothing there. I created an empty file: touch blah and it showed up when I did list it. I noticed, checking dmesg that it was attached to /dev/sdb. So I did a quick fdisk /dev/sdb I saw that it had a partition of type of W95 FAT16 under /dev/sdb1. How come I'm not able to see files placed on that device by XP/Vista machines when I plug it into the CentOS 4.7 machine, but I'm able to create a file on it, and list it? I did double-check and plugged that drive into my XP workstation and sure enough I was able to see all the files. === Al

I would reccomend afraid.org. can't "make"

Hello. I just fresh-installed 5.3 onto my laptop, and I have a problem trying to get wifi working. Be aware that I have 5.2 on it, and did the same process, and it worked great! I'm using http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/WirelessAR5007EG -- as I did for 5.2. Install CentOS directly from usb drive?

Hello: I followed the instructions here: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/ch02s04s01.html to put isolinux on a usb drive. When I boot from the usb drive, the installer comes up and I can do a network install. I have to say that is very impressive! But, since I have a 4GB usb drive, I am thinking I can load the rest of the installation onto the usb drive so I do not have to use a network install. I searched the Internet but could not find any instructions on doing that. Can someone point me in the right direction? I built rpms for Miredo 1.1.5-1 on Centos 5.2 from the fc8 rpms. How do I determine if I have to rebuild it for Centos 5.3?

I just updated kernel manually last evening: that is, directly using rpm and it did update the grub.conf. Well, you can always manually edit the grub.conf file, right? BTW: I managed to install 5.3 on the very first generation MAC PRO (xeon 2.66, XT1900) last weekend with old kernel: I took a detour in order to install it directly from CD iso. The system Hung several times and the DVD rom was NOT recognized. However, after updated to the newest kernel last evening, the DVD ram recognized and it did NOT hang any more: at least for about 6 hours. Cheers! contradictory netfilter default policy

I'm curious why CentOS contradicts its own (or, actually RH's) netfilter default policy. On http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Network/IPTables , at the end of section 1, it's stated that (generally) the default policy for INPUT is to DROP. So, why is it set to ACCEPT? Btw, Fedora is also this way.
