Bug in yum Logwatch reporting

I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was viewing. Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch scans. Seems that the format of the log entries is: "MMM DD", the year is missing! This morning looking at this log sequentially I noticed I did do yum updates on Apr 02 and Apr 03 as reported in last night's logwatch, but not April of 2009, but rather April of 2008! Has anyone else noticed this behavior and/or know if there is a fix in progress for it? Brett

Sending a postfix email to my domain.

Hi, I have setup postfix on my server (for my blog to send out emails) however I host my email on google apps. I want my server to be able to send emails towards my GoogleApps account but it's sending it to the user within the system (I know this is normal but I need it to be a bit different). They offer several operating systems, including CentOS, and give you control over the box to the point that you can even re-image the disk remotely if you truly screw something up. If you do something nasty to it and cause it to lock up, you can still remotely reboot. Hardware RAID-1 is available. You get out-of-the-box CentOS and are allowed to install pretty well anything you like, including virtual machines on top. If you need reverse DNS lookups you can request whatever response you'd like for the IP address(es) you have. Just be aware that what you get is simply a complete machine fully exposed to the Internet, and you're responsible for your own iptables firewalling, etc. Their support staff is friendly and responsive, but they expect you to be your own geek. For DNS service I use Nettica because they are relatively inexpensive and give you control over all of the records. I use GoDaddy strictly as a registrar, and have been very happy with the service, but I don't consider them a serious hosting provider because there's not enough control. I have used several of the free hosting and DNS services out there, but when it comes down to the crunch, you get what you pay for (CentOS is a great exception!) BTW, I have no connection with these companies, I just happen to like their services. A lot. Chuck

acoread 9 slow printing

We use acroread on Centos 5 to print 11x17 plates for a printing press on a HP Laserjet 5100. acroread 8 (AdobeReader_enu-8.1.2-1.i486.rpm) prints a plate in between 60 and 90 seconds. acroread 9 (AdbeRdr9.1.0-1_i486linux_enu.rpm) prints the same plate in 10 to 15 minutes. I've tried this with several different PDF files and it's always the same result. Hooking the printer up with a parallel cable or with the HP Jetdirect network interface makes no noticeable difference. Something has turned the printing performance of acroread 9 into a slug. Not sure if this will solve it, but maybe try putting postfix on a different port. Sendmail-SMTP, Cyrus-IMAPD and plus (+) addressing.

Has anyone on this list got sendmail and cyrus-imapd configured so that email addressed in the form username+folder(a)example.com gets delivered directly to cyrus' user.username.inbox.folder? I have been tinkering with this on and off for about a week and no matter what I have tried, all traffic addressed in the +folder format ends up in user.username.inbox instead. If anyone has gotten this to work then I would very much appreciate knowing the exact steps that you followed to implement it. 1. milter clamav borked?

hey, I upgraded a server to 5.3 from 5.2 today, its a mail server, and its using the rpmforge clamav milter... was getting errors in my mail log like... system-config-date-tui ??

Remote box keeps reverting the localtime to Eastern (America/New_York). cd /etc rm localtime && ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC localtime fixes it - but it seems to revert from time to time, I presume from yum updates (or possibly an init script ??) In /etc/sysconfig there is a config file for it. I'd rather not manually edit it, it looks simple enough, but I'd rather use the tool if there is one. system-config-date wants to pull in ~ 20MB of stuff I don't want that looks like it is needed for a gui config tool, but yum can't find a system-config-date-tui alternative. Is there a text UI / console alternative, and what it is called? If not, where is the format for /etc/sysconfig/clock specified? Install is a xen image (originally CentOS 5.0), so selecting the desired local time at install wasn't an option. Right now it says: ZONE="America/New_York" UTC=false ARC=false Would changing ZONE to ZONE="UTC" be enough to keep my desired UTC localtime?
