Hi All, How does one create a cron job that runs commands like: /usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -config=xxx.com -update /usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -config=yyy.com -update Say every 15 mins? -Jason

Upgrade GTK2 from 2.10 to 2.12 ?

Hi, I'm using CentOS 5.3 on all my desktops, and I really like it. Now I'd like to build a few additional apps that aren't included in any third party repo. Some of them require GTK2 2.12 to build, so I'm considering a (careful) upgrade of this package. General question: 1) how "safe" is it to upgrade this package? To do so, I'd use an SRPM from Fedora. 2) What could I possible "break" on a vanilla CentOS install by doing this? Cheers from the sunny South of France, Niki Kovacs

I personally find GIMP 2.2 as "too obsolete", and this is because some algorithms are improved in GIMP 2.4 (no, I don't need GIMP 2.6, which is btw somewhat buggier). OTOH, I've found on the forums that GIMP 2.4 would build with GTK+ 2.10.13, whereas CentOS 5 comes with GTK+ 2.10.4 only :-( See: http://centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=11086 As a personal opinion, I suppose Firefox might be the first to be affected by a GTK+2 upgrade, as it seems quite fragile. Stupid question: would it be possible to build those applications (e.g. a newer GIMP, for instance) with STATIC builds of some newer libs, y compris gtk2? This way the newer libs shouldn't be used by anybody else, so they shouldn't break anything, right? Sparse LUN's

Hi All, I've been chasing down a problem with LUN masking on CentOS5/RHEL5 hosts with QLogic HBA's for a few hours and seem to have got to an impass; Any device (disks in my case) on Non-sequential LUN's are not registered with the OS. This happens across various HBA models and kernel versions. FYI, I'm currently running the latest qlogic qla2xxx drivers (8.02.14.01) against kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 x86_64 For example if the LUN mask is set to 0,1,2,3 then all is OK and all disks are configured. However, a mask of LUN 0 & 9 will not see the disks on LUN 9. It appears the kernel stops scanning when there is a gap in the LUN list. I read in a number of places how to fix this issue, and indeed here: http://filedownloads.qlogic.com/files/driver/48437/README_qla2xxx2-6U4.htm#… Apparently, I should be able to add a line to modprobe.conf that allows sparse LUNs. So I followed the instructions and added options scsi_mod dev_flags="SUN:CSM200_R:0x040" max_luns=20 and rebuilt initrd. This doesn't seem to work, as only LUN 0 is configured by the OS despite LUN 9 also being unmasked. I've also tried options scsi_mod default_dev_flags=0x040 max_luns=20 in modprobe.conf with no luck [root@host qlogic]# cat /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/1 <snip> SCSI LUN Information: (Id:Lun) * - indicates lun is not registered with the OS. ( 0: 0): Total reqs 144, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, Dflags 0x0, 0:0:83 00 ( 0: 9): Total reqs 0, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x0*, Dflags 0x0, 0:0:83 00 [root@sgulfs-data1 ~]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: <snip> Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: SUN Model: CSM200_R Rev: 0616 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03 I can however do echo "scsi add-single-device 1 0 0 9" > /proc/scsi/scsi to enable LUN 9 and the disk is then configured. I've ended up writing a script in rc.local to enable the LUN , scan LVM and mount the file system which is not ideal. Does anyone have any further insight into how I could get the OS to enable these LUN's on boot thus eliminating the need for my doubtless dirty script? Cheers Dan

I know that this is CentOS' policy -- to ship obsolete packages on the install media, just to match 100% the upstream install media, so to match their possible bugs, but not newer installation bugs that won't match upstream bugs -- *but* this LiveCD is *not* matching anything upstream, and therefore it should have had updated packages! (Of course, that's my opinion, not yours.) The only way to install from a LiveCD is netinstall, so it doesn't matter what is on the CD -- except for the kernel and base system, but not the X applications. Otherwise, used as a rescue CD or just as a normal LiveCD, I don't see what would be the harm of using the official updates. It looks like CentOS has not defined yet a solid policy wrt the LiveCD. You could have taken some ideas from the ScientificLinux LiveCDs/LiveDVD/miniLiveCD. Unless you consider them a "rival", or unless you hate Urs Beyerle. For instance, they've added to the LiveCDs even packages not in their regular ScientificLinux distro, just to make them more useful as rescue tools. I don't say you should have copied them, but at least to take a look at what other clones are doing. > your email client is broken. It is not an e-mail client. Note that the updated package was part of CentOS 5.3 since April 28 already. (Sigh.) All right, nothing would change now anyway. But it's still ridiculous to ship a FF issued in February 4!
