Subversion causing Apache to hog memory

Hello: I posted this to the subversion list yesterday and have not received a reponse. I am hoping someone on this list will be able to help me. I have a CentOS 5 server running subversion 1.5.6-0.2.el5.rf installed using yum from the rpmforge repository. I am using svnsync to mirror from another repository to the local machine. It is called from a cron job every 5 minutes. After a few days of running fine, I started getting this error from cron: svnsync: DAV request failed; it's possible that the repository's pre-revprop-change hook either failed or is non-existent svnsync: At least one property change failed; repository is unchanged svnsync: Error setting property 'sync-lock': Failed to start '/usr/local/svn/MyProject/hooks/pre-revprop-change' hook Looking in /var/log/httpd/error_log, I see this: Could not execute PROPPATCH. [500, #206] Failed to start '/usr/local/svn/MyProject/hooks/pre-revprop-change' hook [500, #165001] Can't start process '/usr/local/svn/MyProject/hooks/pre-revprop-change': Cannot allocate memory [500, #12] Looking at top, the machine has allocated all of the RAM available. When I stop httpd, the RAM comes back. I rebooted the machine and ran top in a shell. I then issued the svnsync command in another shell. I can see the memory usage going up each time I run the svnsync command but it does not seem to come down even after leaving the machine idle for a while. If I then stop httpd, the memory comes back. Dell 2950 with CentOS 5.3

Hi all, Any one experience issue with Dell 2950 and CentOS 5.3, I face some issue like this, server install alright. Keep it in production for a while, Done an update one the server. Reboot , It said no boot devices found. Check on the perc6/i controller the both harddisk show online and optimal. Using live cd to check, the both harddisk still have the data. My issue was solve by removing the hard disk, clear the raid configuration. Put in the hard disk and reimport the configuration from the harddisk. The server able to boot up properly. any one know the cause of it, is it the Dell Hardware issue or it is an OS related issue. Regards KS

"vscan-clamav" runs in the Global Sections of all smb.confs of which I do not see a problem here. I have multiple smb.conf files that I use for testing. While it is not a big problem for me I imagine it is for others. The problem only happens when going from using an ldap backkend or AD ldap that is using winbind for enumeration of users and groups or if just in general the winbind service is running. On this happening no Samba Shares are accessable. Does anyone have a fix for this? Or Patch. JohnStanley

openldap and nscd

Hi, This email is a follow-up to my previous email about "Postfix: user unknown", perhaps these are related. Every time I restart openldap i get an error message from nscd: --- May 15 14:53:02 mail nscd: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable --- This is due to a timeout, correct? Here is part of my /etc/ldap.conf --- timelimit 120 bind_timelimit 30 bind_policy soft idle_timelimit 3600 nss_initgroups_ignoreusers root,ldap --- Is there a way to solve this? It's a Windows XP thing, not specific to the distro, and only affects WinXP afaik (doesn't affect Win2K, couldn't care less about Vista). I first came across it trying to install WinXP on a system that had previously had Fedora on it and the installer hangs at a black screen. The "solution" is to do as you've done and disconnect the drive. If it's a single drive system, then install Windows first for dual booting, or if you just want to reinstall Windows over the top of a previous Linux installation then remove all Linux partitions with fdisk first.

Printing graphics on CentOS 5.3

I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to report that the problem I have been having on CentOS since I first started using it, back in 4.4, of having all images (graphics) print out from the image viewer as all-black pages appears to be gone! I just printed 13 graphics from the image viewer directly to my laser printer, and they're all excellent. I suppose it could be that I'm using a more-supported laser printer now (Brother 2140) than then (Minolta PagePro 1100), with a driver that actually works properly - I don't know. I'm just extremely pleased that this works, regardless pf who should get the blame/credit! Okay, I'm getting my breath back, now.... <RBFG> mhr

Dealing with brute force attacks

Over the weekend one of our servers at a remote location was hammered by an IP originating in mainland China. This attack was only noteworthy in that it attempted to connect to our pop3 service. We have long had an IP throttle on ssh connections to discourage this sort of thing. But I had not considered the possibility that other services were equally at risk. Researching this on the web does not reveal any comprehensive list of vulnerable ports or services. Most discussion centres on ssh, then some on ftp, and relatively few regarding pop3. So, my questions are these: 1. Should I throttle all new connections regardless of destination ports? In other words: are there any legitimate reasons that a single IP would require more than one new connection every 30 seconds or so? 2. Moving pass the obvious and unhelpful "everything", what services are particularly vulnerable to these types of attacks? Does a list exist anywhere? Network Install Procedure Question

Hi there -- I wanted to do a netinstall of the 5.3 release, and the source that I had in mind was either an ftp or http site. When going through this procedure, am I going to download the .iso images from one of the mirror sites or is/are there a directory(ies) at another site(s) that I should specify as the source of the files? Problem booting 2.6.30-rc5 kernel

Good morning! I know I'm on the bleeding edge, but I'm having trouble getting the 2.6.30-rc5 kernel to boot on my CentOS 5.3 box. It's a dual-socket Nehalem box with the Tylersburg chipset (Supermicro board). I installed CentOS 5.3 on it with no problems - boots and runs fine. But I wanted to take a look at the 2.6.30-rc5 kernel and try out some new stuff. After a few go around's with 2.6.30-rc5 the closest I can get it to boot is that I receive the following typing from my notes, so please excuse my typos): Red Hat nash version 5.1.19.6 starting insmod : error inserting '/lib/dm-region-hash.ko' : -1 File exists Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... Volume gruop "VolGroup00" not found mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root' setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory setuproot: mount failed: No such file or directory Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! I think this all boils down to the missing module. But I can't seem to find it in the 2.6.30-rc5 kernel. Any ideas? Thanks! Jeff
