How to change Disk sequence on DELL R900 CENTOS 5.3?

we have DELL R900 with CENTOS 5.3 in it. This DELL R900 come with one integrate PERC6/I and two PERC6/E card. DELL 6/I control 5 internal disks. The original disk sequence are: /dev/sda1 /boot /dev/sda2 / /dev/sdb1 swap ... after I configured PERC6/E disks and reboot, /dev/sda change to RAID disk and original /boot and / change to /dev/sde1 and /dev/sde2. My modprobe.conf is: alias scsi_hostadapter megaraid_sas alias scsi_hostadapter1 ata_piix alias eth0 bnx2 alias eth0.1998 bnx2 alias eth1 bnx2 how to change sequence back? csgfs repo for CentOS 4

Is there any update on the csgfs packages for CentOS 4? The current rpms are 10 months old unless I'm looking at the wrong mirror. -- Bowie

Building Custom Kernel - CentOS 4.4

Hi All, I am having issue when trying to build a custom kernel in CentOS 4.4. Current Kernel Version is 2.6.9-42.ELsmp and the server is HP Proliant DL380 G3. I downloaded the source rpm and then installed it. Gave the command, rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/kernel-2.6.spec. But it throws me an error after patch operations. Please read again how my tiny repo tries to "fix/hack" the 4 libs from EPEL that break RF's MPlayer and VLC. Should the Fedora people be insensitive, what prevents you from just "suck in" the newer libdvdread, libdvdnav, libcaca and lzo from EPEL and just rebuild RF's VLC and MPlayer? Because, honestly, a good deal of people only need the MPlayer+VLC+gstream stuff from RF. My understanding is that RF is so huge that it's very hard to manage, but... Why do you believe there are so many Linux distros? Are they really NEEDED? Nope. They're more than 3-4 distros because people can NOT cooperate properly, and their quick fix is to fork and whatnot. CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policies and aims to be 100% binary compatible. (CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork).", AND all additional non-PNAELV packages will remain in the extra repository??? thanks bn

I have KomPozer installed, but after using M$ FrontPage for years, KomPozer looks like it is going to have a learning curve and I want to get away from FrontPage and Windows. I know Mark (MHR) uses SeaMonkey. Wondering if there is anything else I can use on Linux that is easier on a FrontPage user. I found this article: <http://webdesign.about.com/od/htmleditors/tp/aatpwyslinux.htm> when I googled. Recommendations? TIA!

server is always getting hacked

WE have a centos 5.3 install, and our server is keep getting hacked. We see load averages of 500+ and see people from all over the world logging into our server (used last). Is there a good place to start to avoid these kinds of things? For example, here is what I already did. Open up sshd port only setup iptables to only accept port 80 and 22 No FTP No other ports are allowed according to IP Tables. I am not sure what else measures I can take. Can someone please assist? TIA

Partitionning for future.

Hi all, I have a disk of 146Gb in a machine intended to have mainly mysql database, apache and some web data. I didn't use LVM for / and /boot during the installtion Could I extend easily in the future the /var partition when I add another disk? CentOS and Redhat Directory Server

I have implemented LDAP on CentOS successfully using Redhat's Directory Server and the great how-to on the CentOS wiki. Being new to LDAP, I have a question and maybe one of you guys can point me in the right direction: I have LDAP implemented on the network for logins to the workstation pcs. I also have an apache website that I now use LDAP for authentication. What I want, however, is to be able to allow a group of users to authenticate to the apache website, but not be able to login to any of the systems directly nor via ssh. Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction on where to read up on how to accomplish this specific task would be much appreciated. Thanks, Giovanni

Because I am not. As for the Linux kernel, they pushed in all kind of crap. Back in 1996, I was running Linux with X in only 8 Megs of RAM! Now, I doubt I could even boot with such a memory... Linux is not like Jesus. Linux is not "good", nor "great". It's only "much less worse" than Windows, and marginally better than the BSDs. Of course, it's open source and so on. Still, 7,600 is unmaintainable. For their ~20k packages, both Debian and Ubuntu use dozens and dozens of packages. (And I won't mention the quality of Ubuntu's packages.) As for TUV, they decided they can only support ~2.5k packages, regardless of the fact that they're the #1 Linux company. I maintain that RF is way too large to be properly maintainable.
