[OT] Simple Shell Script (while loop)

Hey Guys, I can not find the corrent syntax for what I am trying to acheive with a while loop. Having said that I'm not exactly sure what you would call it so I have been googling with no success probably for that reason. I am just working with some sub directories except there is one I don't want to use so I have a while loop like the following; if we stubmle into the sub directory I wish to leave alone then there is an IF statement and I have used the break command which is wrong, I don't want to end this whole loop I just want to skip onto the next increment of the loop as it were skipping this sub directory. Break is the wrong command but what should it be? Sorry I can't be any clearer but I don't know exactly what you would call this (which is why I am having no success finding it for my self!) #!/bin/bash find ./ -maxdepth 1 -type d | while read FOLDER do if [ $FOLDER == "./not_this_folder_oh_no!" ]; then break fi <otherwise do some magic here> done Many thanks for your time and input. question on whiptail

There is a script that uses whiptail command. Is there a way to wrap the script that calls whiptail 4 times and just send a carriage return to each character window that pops up? I want it to basically just accept the default option for each of the four prompted windows. without me hitting return 4 times. How do I do that? I tried unsuccessfully: script_calling_whiptail << EOF \n \n \n \n \n EOF ~ I dont want to change/edit the script as it may change again in the future. Thanks Jerry

Server Build Example

I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every 6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application server, and several other server type functions. Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3? Thanks, Gene Poole

CPU usage over estimated?

I have a quad core CPU running Centos5. When I use top, I see that running processes use 245% instead of 100%. Swap priorities with swapon (Is my swap drive working?)

Hey Listee's I have a CentOS server with 2GB of ram and a swap drive of 4GB; swapon -a shows my swap drive as 4GB with only about 350 bytes in use (which is fine as my server idles with about 350-400MB ram usage so no swap should be in use. However my one and only swap drive had a priority of -1. I had read that the swap drive priority doesn't matter too much because I only have one swap drive so the kernel hasn't got to make a choice but also that after a certain kernel version (which is think was like 1.3.x?) it didn't even use the priority value and my kernel is newer (I have 2.6.18-128.1.6.e15). Basically I have read difference things from difference source on the old interwebwrok and seek clarification. In the confusion I set my swap drive priority from -1 to 1 because I thought that if the drive priority were a negative value it might not actually use the swap drive. Ultimately I can't tell because there currently isn't enough memory usage demand on the server. On a side note: I'm a reformed Windows admin and have seen the light and am moving each server one at a time over to Linux so I am used to poor memory management and needing massive page files. Realistically the swap drive shouldn't been in use but I am just worried then when this server goes live it will hit 2GB of ram usage and the swap won't kick in. Is there anyway I can check? I need a hosting provider just like Dreamhost.net's shared hosting service, but with a CentOS shell instead of Debian. Any pointers? Matt
