ssh -X not shutting down

Occasionally I ssh into my server to check something, and if it needs the gui I use 'ssh -X'. Until recently there was no problem. Exiting simply dropped me back to my local konsole. Lately, though, the shutdown seems to hang, and I have to close the session. Any thoughts? Anne -- New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org Just found a cool new feature? Worried, ran yum -y update expecting to get the bind update but am concerned as to why the following instant messaging packages were installed as dependencies. All of the following are instant messaging related except cyrus-sasl. Jul 30 17:00:49 Installed: cyrus-sasl-md5-2.1.22-4.i386 Jul 30 17:00:49 Installed: meanwhile-1.0.2-5.el5.i386 Jul 30 17:00:50 Installed: libsilc-1.0.2-2.fc6.i386 Jul 30 17:00:54 Installed: libpurple-2.5.5-3.el5.i386 Jul 30 17:00:58 Installed: libpurple-perl-2.5.5-3.el5.i386 Did anybody else notice the install of im clients on practically headless non-gui systems? Any explanation?

A friend of mine sent me this link: http://linux.slashdot.org/story/09/07/30/130249/CentOS-Project-Administrato… I went to the main page and read the letter and the "Facts." Are there any more details, mainly along the lines of CentOS sticking around - I know you folks all work really hard on this, and you know better than me how many others depend on you - but - there's that little specter of doubt yelling in my virtual ears (has to yell 'cuz it's really tiny) and I'd like nothing better (well, almost) than to gag it. Thanks for all you do, and for keeping us all informed. mhr

sendmail slow to response

Dear All, I am sorry for the post here but really apprecite if someone could help me or advise. actually i just could not subscribe to sendmail mailing list I have the following setup for a long time on a single computer Centos server running as my primary Mail & Dns server CentOS release 5 (Final) sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5 bind-9.3.4-6.0.3.P1.el5_2 MailScanner (4.76.25) Mailwatch 1.0.4 I had also running Squirrel mail on the same computer ver 1.1.17 which had been upgraded as per new releases all this had been workin grt until recently some users complined that MSOutlook or Outlook expreess is very slow (a simple text mail remains 2 to 3 minutes in outbox) and then sent actually abt 80 % users use squirrel mail and there is absolutley no problem after i started to check this problem i finally concluded that a telnet the server ip:25 from a client took a long time for sendmail to respond. the client is on local lan after loggin into the server itself a telnet to the server ip on port 25 was just instant also netstat -nl shows me tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN i have not changed any settings in sendmail.mc file or regenrated the sendmail.cf file just wondering what could have gone wrong would really apprecite your help and advice as to wht i could do to troubleshoot this rpoblem Regards simon -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

there is a python update ...snippel $ yum update ... Updating: python i386 2.4.3-24.el5_3.6 updates 5.9 M Installing for dependencies: kernel-PAE i686 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 updates 15 M snappel... why does it require kernel-PAE ? manual download and install via $ rpm -Fvh python... worked without the need for another kernel. -- best regards, markus

We have CENTOS 4.X and 5.X on DELL servers. Recently we found some bad blocks happen on databases. the way we create file system is: mke2fs -j /dev/sdXX Does there has any good way can create file system with less bad block or avoid file system to use bad block?
