Interupted Internet Service

Everytime I see this in the logs my internet access stops for about 5 minutes. Nothing else follows in the logs. I have DSL. Any ideas? Confused about named, chroot, and tmp files.

Any ideas why bind is putting the tmp files in the [chroot]/var/named directory and not in /tmp or /var/tmp? to filter dos ip using iptables recent

Hello, all. I read this document about iptables recent module. http://blog.andrew.net.au/2005/02/16#ipt_recent_and_ssh_attacks and I would like to filter the excessive spam mail sending ip address by iptables recent module. and some questions. iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -m recent --set --name SPAM iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -m recent --update --seconds 60 --hitcount 4 --rttl --name SPAM -j DROP If I set like above, I can't understand the meaning of the hitcount. it means the number of a packet, session or connection? above rule means if 4 connection for 60 seconds, the ip will be filtered for 60 seconds, right? if some ip was filtered, how long will be filtered? for 60 seconds? when I see the list as cat /proc/net/ipt_recent/SPAM the maximum number is 100. if it reaches the 100, no problem? and how to increase the number? To All, I am having trouble updating two x86_64 machines, and am getting the same error messages on each. I have the base, extra, and plus repos enabled. Any help you can extend would be appreciated. xrdp in EPEL

xrdp is a service that allows you to use mstsc or rdesktop to view your Linux desktop from afar. xrdp is packaged for Fedora and EPEL http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=9026 now you can just type yum -y install xrdp to install it. it's also available in EPEL repo (for redhat enterprise and centos) https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/FAQ#howtouse I have only installed from source, haven't tried this rpm.

OT: Fortunate clueless dd chum - lvm recovery

Looks like the chum did not have to lose any data. Wiping out the MBR and the next 63 blocks apparently only wiped out grub stage1, partition table, and part of the lvm config data. I get to try to do a lvm 'recovery' at his expense now but this is my first time...has anybody ever tried restoring lvm config data back to the md/pv device? Cheers, Christopher
