Hello again! I have this piece od code: ##################### #lftp will make the backup lftp -u user,password -e "mirror --reverse --delete --only-newer --verbose /var/bkp /test_bkp" somehost.com >> $LOGFILE # end log file date >> $LOGFILE echo "Backup Completo!" >> $LOGFILE ##################### Everything is fine, but the bash scrip dosn't complete after lftp upload all files... It hungs in: lftp user@somehost.com:~> how can I exit lftp and finish the bash? Thx!

md boot device

The secondary disc was used in a lab rig to boot off of and test something after which the primary was replaced and the system was booted off of. It saw the secondary as more recent and dropped the primary so, the secondary was removed and the primary was used to boot. Figuring that made it more recent, even after it was restarted with the "now older" secondary, it still wants to drop the primary? W/o blowing out the secondary (it can't be hot added) how can I force the primary to not be dropped? I'm amused that even with it used to boot solo, and hence timestamps validating it as most recent, md will only use the secondary to start from? Thanks! jlc

DNS issue.. help ?!

Hi All, i have DNS configured on my centos 5.2 server. it's all working fine, right now i want to change the main public dns from one IP to another to do some testing (the new public dns ip has records which the old one doesnt have and it's done as such for testing) so i got into /etc/resolv.conf and changed the first nameserver to the NEW public DNS. /etc/init.d/network restart /etc/init.d/named restart when i issue an nslookup example.com ON the dns server, i get the exact IP i want to do testing on. but when i do nslookup example.com on the clients machine. the website resolves to another IP ( the one set in the initial public dns records) is there any other changes i need to do for the DNS server redirects its requests to the new public dns ?

Xen, Amazon, and /proc/cmdline

Amazon (or perhaps Amazon's configuration of Xen) forces a machine to come up at run level 4, regardless of what's in /etc/inittab. I've looked through /etc/rc.sysinit and /etc/rc.d/rc, to determine which (if any script) looks at /proc/cmdline and forces a particular run level, but to no avail. It seems that /sbin/init does the forcing. Can anyone confirm that /sbin/init reads /proc/cmdline to overwrite /etc/inittab? I can't seem to find any reference in man pages or searching the web. Rolodex for linux

As I migrate away from Windows, I need to move the data out of my old rolodex program (written in Pascal back in the late 80's) into something that runs on Linux. The data is stored in csv lines in a text file. That old custom program output the data to rolodex cards on a pin-feed dot matrix printer. (Yea...I'm dating myself). Anyway, does anyone know of a decent rolodex program on linux that also has the capability of printing to the 3.5" wide rolodex cards? DaveM

CentOS port forwarding?

Dear All I have my CentOS server at @172.16.17.100 and my remote network element at @ 172.16.17.110 and both ones have Internet access . I need to virtually put the remote network element on the same LAN as my CentOS server to be touched with . In my application , both the ip addresses are as invalid ones and I cannot change them . Can you please let me know if there is a settings on the CentOS server that can do the job or just the port forwarding on the attached gateway can be used ? Thank you
