help with spec file

I am attempting to learn how to build my own rpms. I found a good tutorial online but it is a bit out of date (2007). Here it is: http://www.rpm-based.org/how-to-create-rpm-package At any rate, the package it uses is of course old and I found a newer version of one to test with. The tutorial uses a program called 'subtitleeditor' which when it was written was at version 0.20.0alpha4. Yet I have looked for rpm's of these files at those levels and I find none later than the ones installed. I think the solution may lie here: Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GTKMM_CFLAGS and GTKMM_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. I understand I am novice at these matters, but I am unsure of how to set these variables and would appreciate a pointer on how to do that. No Chinese character set in Firefox

Hi all. I'm running Centos 5.5 and have recently lost my chines characters in Firefox. Just get a lot of wierd looking boxex now, look like dominos. Any suggestions please? Keith

compression on the fly with mod_deflate on vhosts ssl

Can't login after installing Centos 5.5

I've done a clean install of Centos 5.5, largely using the default options. Those I changed were: * Changed to KDE Desktop * Added Samba and NFS4 to firewall * Changed NTP servers to those of my ISP When Centos boots what I think is a progress bar shows no progress but eventually (probably about the right amount of time for booting the OS) the user login screen partially appears (username and box, time and name of machine, a flowing "tree" symbol), but the bottom of the screen does not appear to be completed. This login screen clears and redisplays several times. Finally the screen locks with the time displayed in much exaggerated height (about a quarter of the screen height) and nothing more works. At no point can I get to a text login screen (Ctrl-Alt-F1) so I can't even debug it! Can anyone suggest what is wrong or how to overcome it?

But even this deadlocked Congress is capable of doing what the Australian Labor Party cannot — pass a mandatory ISP-based Internet filter — and do so before the end of the year. Speaker Nancy Pelosi will recall the current congress for a special lame-duck session later this year before newly elected representatives are sworn in, to pass last-minute reforms in case the Democrats lose power, as widely predicted in the polls. Among those reforms include a low-profile copyright proposal with bipartisan, almost unanimous support that just so happens to include censoring whole websites included on a government-run blacklist. The *Combating Online Infringements and Counterfeits Act*(COICA) will blacklist sites that are “dedicated to infringing activities” regardless of where the site is hosted, with exceptions for commercially-oriented sites but not political speech. Originally planned as two blacklists, one controlled by the courts and one by the US Attorney General, the latter was dropped from the bill yesterday after ISPs raised early complaints. Patching openssl rpms

Running CentOS release 5.5. I'm trying to update or patch an SRPMS file, specifically openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6.src.rpm. Basically, I'm trying to change one line in the source, in ssl/ssl.h. I create a "diff –u" file called openssl-ssl-h.patch. error when logging into system

Hello everyone, I have a CentOS 5 system. On this system, I used the usermod -n and groupmod -g to change the user id and the group id for a standard, regular user from 500 to 1000. I then ran the following commands (as root), to make sure all the files were changed to match: find / -uid 500 -exec chown 1000 {} \; -- and -- find / -gid 500 -exec chgrp 1000 {} \; Now, whenever I try to login as that regular user, I get the following error: id: can't find name for groupd ID 500 I have checked /etc/passwd and /etc/group and both files are correctly showing 1000 as the user and group ids. I didn't see the id isn't listed in either of the shadow files. All of the files in the user's home directory have the ownership and group set to id 1000. I have rebooted the system to make sure nothing was being stored in memory, with the same results. HP ML110 G6: how to update kernel with HP hpahcisr raid driver installed

Hi! I have install Centos 5.5 on HP ProLiant ML110 G6 with RAID-1 hardware active. (00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controller (rev 05)) I have follow this suggest: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?la… ... start with "linux dd" and, at the end of setup, install the hpahcisr into kernel 2.6.18-194.el5PAE But after reboot if I run a "yum update" and reboot, the new kernel not contain the driver hpahcisr for new kernel and I get a kernel panic.
