Centos DS and user password change

[stas@ds ~]$ cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 5.5 (Final) [stas@ds ~]$ rpm -qa | grep centos-ds centos-ds-admin-8.1.0-9.el5.centos.1 centos-ds-8.1.0-1.el5.centos.2 centos-ds-base-8.1.0-0.14.el5.centos.2 centos-ds-console-8.1.0-5.el5.centos.2 ds installed for: 1) linux workstations authentication 2) mail (accounts & aliases) 3) samba 4) squid acls Exists several r/o replicas. All services and workstations work with replica, not with main server. Now i need some interface for change user's own password by user. Password change must be on main server. I try login by user to main server, and i can't change own password. Added that ACL (via centos-idm-console): (targetattr = "userPassword") (version 3.0; acl "ChangePass"; allow (write) (userdn = "ldap:///self") and (dns="*.neyvabank.ru") ;) No effect. How i can give rights to users for change passwords? -- Stanislav

DVD drive ownership/permissions group ownership = mail?

I can change the group ownershipp of the DVD drive, but if I log out & in again it changes back. Is there a way to make a change permanent? How could I figure out what process is changing this back? ls -la /dev/scd0 brw-rw---- 1 root mail 11, 0 Nov 12 15:17 /dev/scd0 mahalo, Dave

Yum Updates dependencies missing (rpmforge)

There are updates available, for the below multimedia packages (CentOS 5.5, 32 bit), but I'm getting missing dependency errors from yum update for these. ---> Package directfb.i386 0:1.2.10-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package ffmpeg.i386 0:0.6.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package ffmpeg-libpostproc.i386 0:0.6.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package gstreamer-plugins-ugly.i386 0:0.10.11-2.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package kino.i386 0:1.3.4-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package libquicktime.i386 0:1.2.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package lzo.i386 0:2.04-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package mplayer.i386 0:1.0-0.44.svn20100703.el5.rf set to be updated Probably anyone wanting to update the above packages should wait a day or two and hopefully the dependencies will become available. Any chance to get a working, current openldap srpm/rpm for centos 5.5

Hello, is there anyone out there, who has a current 2.4.23 srpm or good how to compile it from src with supported db4? I tried to compile recent source files, but always finding the current (installed) db4 >4.3 fails. Than I tried to compile the LTB Project Files: http://ltb-project.org/wiki/documentation/openldap-rpm May be it is just a small step or option to be set. XFS or EXT3 ?

There was a similar thread about which is the best FS for Centos. I'm using ext3, and wondered if XFS would be more 'data safe' than ext3. I had a 100GiB ext3 partition, and it took up 1.75GiB for FS administration purposes. I reformatted it to XFS, and it only used 50.8MB! I now have a fresh new drive to install my root Centos system onto, and wondered about creating the partitions as XFS? What about the XFS admin tools - do these get installed when you format a partition as XFS from anaconda, or are they a seperate rpm package, installed later? Fiddling with software RAID1 : continue working with one of two disks failing?

Hi, I'm currently experimenting with software RAID1 on a spare PC with two 40 GB hard disks. Normally, on a desktop PC with only one hard disk, I have a very simple partitioning scheme like this : /dev/hda1 80 MB /boot ext2 /dev/hda2 1 GB swap /dev/hda3 39 GB / ext3 Here's what I'd like to do. Partition a second hard disk (say, /dev/hdb) with three partitions. Setup RAID1 like this : /dev/md0 80 MB /boot ext2 /dev/md1 1 GB swap /dev/md2 39 GB / ext3 I somehow managed to get this far. I was wondering if this setup theoretically enabled me to continue working with one disk failure. So I tried unplugging the power cord of one of my hard disks... which resulted in a "GRUB Disk Error" on boot. Question : is there a way to still run the system with either of the two disks "damaged" (in this case : unplugged)? And if so, how would I have to go about it in my setup? Good day, Some yum instructions I do not know. Kindly some pointers please. There are unfinished transactions remaining. You might consider running yum-complete-transaction first to finish them. The program yum-complete-transaction is found in the yum-utils package. This is where I am lost Thanks Johan

Fwd: Linux, Windows AD domain, and IDs

You have a CentOS (for example) workstation that is a member of a Windows AD domain courtesy of modified smb.conf and krb5.conf files. There are, thus, no local user accounts on the linux workstation. There is a network application that benefits most (maybe even requires) the user's numerical portion of their employee ID as their linux workstation id. Thus, if I log in, my domain username might be scott12. My employee ID might be se123456. If I log into the linux workstation, I'm going to log in as scott12 along with providing my password. I type id at the shell, and am given something like scott12 (10001) for the user. How can I manage to make the id [also] equal to 123456 for user scott12 without breaking anything? Thanks for any leads. Scott
