strange disk error

Hi everyone . Recently I had a strange error on one of my servers ,running Centos 5.4 64bit FAILED kernel: status = 1, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 08 kernel: <6>sd: Current: sense key: Illegal Request kernel: Add. Sense: Logical block address out of range *Should i be worried sick about it or is it normal??* *There are 2 sas hdd connected into raid 1 to Adaptec AIC-9410W SAS controller. I can't get any information about my drives health (no S.M.A.R.T there) and to get information about raid quality i must restart system and enter raid bios- which is not very good option And maybe someone knows how to get health information om my raid\hdd from Centos ? Asus Xonar DX PCIe sound card?

Can anyone here report success or failure at making the Asus Xonar DX PCI-express sound card work under CentOS 4? Or failing that, 5? Google only turned up people using it on Ubunt or SuSE... I need to specify the addition of audio outputs to a HP DL360 system, and don't want to buy stuff that will be a pain to get working. :-) Or can anyone recommend any other simple sound cards for PCI-express that have been trouble-free under CentOS 4 or 5? auto mounting group shares

I am using autofs to mount user's home and group directories. The setup works fine for home directories which are mounted after user logs in. The group shares are also mounted, but user has to manually do cd or ls command on group shares, e.g.: ls /groups/chemistry will mount chemistry group share. Is there any way to mount group shares automatically? I noticed that after successful login 'some program' performs chdir (cd) which probably tells autofs to mount home dirs. Which program does this operation? Is there any way to do this for group shares also? - CS.

slowness in sendmail - 60 second timeout

I am sending an email from my machine devcentos5x64. the transcript below (hangs for 60 seconds) at the line: MAIL From:<root(a)devcentos5x64.msgnet.com> SIZE=56 AUTH=root(a)devcentos5x64.msgnet.com The email succeeds - but I am trying to figure out the 60 second delay. Neither email server is busy. Nothing is waiting. the DNS on both machines point to the same nameserver. The DNS responds very fast when looking up server names. iSCSI + kickstart

Hi, (I'm using RHEL, but I posted on redhat.general and rhel5 mailing lists and didn't get an answer, so I'm taking a chance here as well) Two of my servers have 2 nics (HP DL495c G5). Using RHEL 5.4, I'd like to do a network install to boot from iSCSI, as the NIC supports it, following this document: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-6875. However, since my data network is on a network segment that is separated from the SAN (iSCSI) network segment, I'd need to install from pxeboot using the LAN VLAN, but configure another nic so that it has access ot the SAN VLAN. From what I can see, it is not possible to assign a vlan in kickstart, and kickstart can only configure one NIC using the --network parameter. However, I managed to configure another nic using a %pre%. It also looks impossible to create a bonded interface in kickstart, which I'd like to be able to create. Ideally, I'd like a bonded interface in failover mode, and some vlan'd interface on top of the bonded interface. But I could manage that afterwards, I guess. It looks like only my first physical NIC can boot from the SAN, so ideally, I'd need to have a eth0 to be in the SAN segment, and configure eth1 for the LAN, so that it can see my dhcp, pxeboot and tftp server. Then I guess I must change the boot mode of my NIC so that it boots using iSCSI instead of PXE (after the install). But then, will multipath be configured? Since I have two controllers, the lun shows me two disks... If anyone has had experience with this kind of installation, please let me know. Thanks, Ugo

Changing size of a xen guest filesystem

It should be easy, but I have not yet found a solution. Only some methods involving use of dd, but that sounds a little scary to me on a production server. I wish there would be a command "virt-resize", but no...
