Problem updating curl

Hello everyone, I am having some difficulty updating curl on my updated CentOS 5.4 box (CentOS release 5.4 (Final)). I have a client that is needing a library (librets) updated. I have version 1.3.38 installed, but they need 1.3.40. When I try to build that library, it tells me that it requires curl 7.18.2 or greater. I found information for building an updated curl packages (7.20.0 in this case), and was able to successfully build those rpm packages, but when I try to install them, I get the following error: libcurl.so.3 is needed by (installed) gnupg-1.4.5-14.i386 The curl packages that I built (from source 7.20.0) are trying to install libcurl.so.4 (libcurl.so.4.2.0 specifically). I checked and the curl package 7.18.2 will also build libcurl.so.4, so that wouldn't help me in this case. Is anyone aware of anyway of getting around this without rebuilding gnupg as well? I am just afraid that if I have to rebuild the gnupg package also, it will cause many other dependency issues that will completely break my system. tcpdump?

Dear All I have put tcpdump trace on port 4957 on my CentOS server , as the following : #tcpdump port 4957 I want to obtain the payload data to see what is realy being exchanged between my CentOS server and the outside network element . NFS client firewall config?

Hi all, Which ports do I need to have open on an NFS client's firewall to allow it to connect to a remote NFS servers? When I disable iptables (using ConfigServerFirewall), it connects fine, but as soon as I enable it, NFS gives me this error: root@saturn:[~]$ mount master1.mydomain.co.za:/saturn /bck mount: mount to NFS server 'master1.mydomain.co.za' failed: RPC Error: Unable to send. I have added ports 111 & 2049 in both the TCP & UDP ingres & exgress ranges, but that doesn't seem to help. portmap & nfs is running as well. But as I say, as soon as I disable the firewall, it mounts fine. CentOS and Bash History

Hi, I was wondering if bash or inputrc has changed form CentOS v4 to CentOS v5? Reason I ask is at the bash cli I can type, for example 'su' and then with the up and down arrows I can scroll through my history and will only see the commands that begin with 'su'. In CentOS 5 this isn't the case. I have added some code to my inputrc file to make this work in CentOS 4 as follows: # Search History for previous used commands "\M-[A":history-search-backward "\M-[B":history-search-forward "\M-[C":forward-char "\M-[D":backward-char And this works well in CentOS 4 but I cannot get it to work in CentOS 5. Resizing a PV that belongs within a Volume Group?

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to extend (ie: grow) a PV that is part of a Volume Group? I currently have a partition on my HD that is being used as a PV for my Volume Group, but would like to make it larger. I have the space on my drive to extend my partition, but using standard tools (ex: gparted, Partition Magic, etc) would likely end up corrupting the data on in the Logical Volumes that are housed within the VG. I realize that I could just create a new partition on my HD and just add it to my Volume Group and extend my Volume Group, however, given that it would be two contiguous partitions on the HD, I was just wondering if there was a way of resizing the original partition within the VG without causing any problems. I tried looking at tools like pvresize but I can't seem to understand the right arguments to use it as whatever I try never seems to resize the original partition itself. I also looked at system-config-lvm GUI tool, but that doesn't seem to allow me to make the PV any larger. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Eric

best practice: how to setup a central "network installation server"?

Hi, I want to setup a central installation server, but haven't done this before, so I want to find out what would be best practices for this? The server I have already runs as a central repo, which is updated from one or our local centos mirrors, and the other CentOS servers (both i386 & x64), as well as CentOS VPS's get their updates from this server. But, now I want to allow a client to perform a quick network installation, using either a netbood CD, or preferably with the server's network bootrom. I understand this can be done with bootp, or am I on the wrong track? the server is a general file server and also acts as our in-office internet gateway, and has Webmin installed for convenience sake. I don't know if this is of any use? Generally we would be (re)installing CentOS servers & desktops, but I guess it could be useful for other distro's like Fedora Core / Debian / FreeBSD? / etc. What would be a good option to go for, or could someone point me to a good documentation? Doing a google search I found a lot of instructions on how to perform a network installation on the client PC's, but not how to configure the server. Dependency problem with yum-utils when installing Cobbler on CentOS

Hi I'm trying to set up a Cobbler server, and when I run "cobbler check", I got the following message: The following potential problems were detected: #0: yum-utils need to be at least version 1.1.17 for reposync -l, current version is 1.1.16 [root@tannat ~]# I'm using Cobbler 1.6.6-1, CentOS-5.4 (x86_64), and (as the message says), yum-utils 1.1.16. Is there a way to fool "Cobbler check"? Thanks Marcelo

Server HD failed and I think I am hosed

a hd in my server failed. I noticed when I went to SSH in and get a copy of some files in /var/www/html I tried to tar the files and I was told No, read-only file system. I restarted and tried running FSCK manually (without -a or -p) and I get inode errors, short reads, etc. I tried booting to my CentOS 53 install DVD. I do linux rescue and I get to where it wants to know where CentOS images are. I select local CD-ROM and it just spits it out at me and tells me to try someplace else. Even though I booted from the CD! I am not sure what else to do. I dont think I can mount this on my macBook to do anything. But I really need just the data from /var/www/html. I have a backup that is a week old, but I know changes were made late last week that I would like to not have to do again.... Where is my backup of the changes I made? Well my SSD drive failed in my laptop and I dont think I have them... Can anyone provide advice as to what to do next? Also, what would have caused this all of the sudden? This box has been running fine for months.
