Hylafax does not pick up.

We run the distro HylaFax on a CentOS-5.4 host. On infrequent occasions we notice that the server will not pick up an incoming call. It reports listening to modem rings. Now, it seems to me that picking up the call should be under the control of the modem but I notice that there exists a setting in Hylafax for the number of rings before picking up. The default value for this is 0 (zero) but we have it set to 1 (one). Because of this option I am not sure whether there is something wrong with the server or with the modem. Has anyone else experienced this problem and discovered its cause? -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Permissions problem

What am I doing wrong here? I need to be able to write to /var/cvs. This used to work before I moved these groups into an LDAP directory instead of /etc/group: [scarolan@watcher:/var/cvs]$ touch test.txt touch: cannot touch `test.txt': Permission denied [scarolan@watcher:/var/cvs]$ ls -ld drwxrwsr-x 4 cvs cvsgrp 4096 May 18 2008 . Where i download CentOS 4 iso for SPARC?

Hi, at http://www.centos.org/product.html show that centos support SPARC architecture. Where can i download a iso? The only one i can find is this: http://beta.centos.org/centos/4.2beta/os/sparc/ and this link is broken. Best Regard's Luigi Castro Cardeles

[Possibly OT] rpm conflicts has me confused

Hi list, I can install the default ppp-2.4.4-2, but when I try to install an rpm I built from Sangoma's ppp-2.4.4.5 (using checkinstall-1.6.1) I get this error: # rpm -ivh ppp.2.4.4.5-1.eai.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: ppp < 2.4.3-3 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-162.2.1.el5.i686 Isn't 2.4.4.5 > 2.4.3-3 ??? trying this: yum localinstall ppp.2.4.4.5-1.eai.i386.rpm --nogpgcheck gives some advice: You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest and I tried each of those, but no joy. Is this an rpm bug, a checkinstall bug, or PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair)? thanks, -Bob Beers

X server crashes when I fire up "Display" or "Screen Resolution" control panels

Hi. I've just installed CentOS 5.4 on my IBM T61 laptop. By default, I get the same image (duplicate screens) on the laptop's LCD and on the external monitor; I want to set up separate screens but my X server crashes when I start "Display" or "Screen Resolution" control panels or press Function-F7 which is supposed to bring up the single screen/ multiple screens selection menu. I am including my Xorg.log, could somebody help me sort this out, please, or at least point me in the right direction? I do see this: (WW) intel: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found (--) PCI:*(0:2:0) Intel Corporation unknown chipset (0x2a02) rev 12, Mem @ 0xf8100000/20, 0xe0000000/28, I/O @ 0x1800/3 (--) PCI: (0:2:1) Intel Corporation unknown chipset (0x2a03) rev 12, Mem @ 0xf8200000/20 Do I need a special video driver? I checked http://www.linlap.com/wiki/ibm-lenovo+thinkpad+t61 which says this laptop should work OK with recent Linux distros; and I tried the xorg.conf mod in http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Fedora_8_on_a_T61#Graphics but X crashes when I run xrandr. I went on the vendor website but there is no driver available - they did have an NVIDIA driver for SUSE, but my laptop does not have an NVIDIA device and I am running CentOS, not SUSE! Help? Call for Firefox 3.6.1 and Thunderbird 3.0.1 testers

Hi, I have made complete rebuild and backport of Firefox 3.6.1 and Thunderbird 3.0.1 to CentOS 5. Packages come with language packs, debuginfo packages, xulrunner etc. I'm looking for QA testers. Upgrade from distro versions works pretty fine. Thanks, David Hrbáč

YESS. It prevents the tty error from showing up and asks me for a password as expected. BUT, how do I then automate the entering of the password? John Kennedy mentioned using expect which I've used before but found it to be 'finnicky'. I may have to look at it again... Changing settings such as sudo configuration or ssh config may be daunting since I have a large number of systems(150+) that would need to be modified. :-/ --Tim
