Hi all, I am trying to build a file server providing about 10 TB of effective RAID5/6 storage. Any recommendations as far as hardware, configuration, etc. - preferably based on recent experience - would be most welcome. Thanks in advance. Boris.

generate certiciate help

Hi I try to use "cd /etc/pki/tls/certs; make sendmail.pem" or cd /usr/share/ssl/certs; make sendmail.pem to make certificate but I don't have this path /usr/share/ssl/ I check I have openssl rpm installed How can I do it? /mnt/sysimage/dev folder in rescue mode

If I boot C5 from DVD in rescue mode, chroot to /mnt/sysimage, and try to do a grub-install /dev/sda it will fail because the /dev folder is empty (in the chroot environment). Until now I've then created the missing nodes manually, but is there a smarter way of doing this? Some devfs that needs to be mounted on top of /dev? mkisofs help?

Hi All, I am following: http://www.linuxinsight.com/how-to-flash-motherboard-bios-from-linux-no-dos… to make a bootable CD to flash my bios I get to mkisofs step, but what I get is not what I think I want. I dont understand if I unmount /tmp/floppy how the Mkisofs command of: mkisofs -o bootcd.iso -b FDOEM.144 FDOEM.144 how I get everything in /tmp/floppy Here is what I did: wget http://www.fdos.org/bootdisks/autogen/FDOEM.144.gz gunzip FDOEM.144.gz mkdir /tmp/floppy mount -t vfat -o loop FDOEM.144 /tmp/floppy Copied the flash files to /tmp/floppy umount /tmp/floppy mkisofs -o bootcd.iso -b FDOEM.144 FDOEM.144 Can anyone help? -Jason

Rebuild - Again!?

I putzd around and messed up my primary system. I could get it back with a bunch of work a-rounds but I've decided to do a complete rebuild of it. What I need to run on this machine (besides the CentOS 5.2 OS) is Oracle 11g (requires gnome), VMware Server 2, JBoss 5, plus some other tidbits. Does anyone have or know of a checklist that I can use to make sure I've done everything correctly (as least as far as the OS install and configuration is concerned)? Thanks, Gene Poole

mounting gfs partition hangs

Hi, I have configured two machines for testing gfs filesystems. They are attached to a iscsi device and centos versions are: CentOS release 5.4 (Final) Linux node1.fib.upc.es 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 03:33:56 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux The problem is if I try to mount a gfs partition it hangs. [root@node1 ~]# mount -t gfs /dev/home2/home2 /home2 hangs... If I cancel the command I can return to the terminal and I don't see anything in log files. hello, i've just wrote the following : more ./*.csv | grep -i XXX | echo "Dear XXX, This email is for informative purposes. Your total number of hours for the week of `date` is: `cut -d, -f2` hours Kindly note that the average weekly working hours is : 40." | /usr/sbin/sendEmail -t mail(a)domain.com -u Test email- disregard it -f othermail(a)subdomain.com -s smtp.domain.com:25 this looks in a csv file that exists in the same directory for XX and outputs the field right next to it as you notice from : `cut -d, -f2` It's working pretty fine for just one user, but i have to do the same for 432 person. and its obviously not as professional as it should be due to the following reasons: 1. i have to fill the name for each person in place of XXX as well as their MAIL(a)domain.com 2. the date command gives the hour as well which is a bit annoying can anyone guide me on how to proceed? as you notice im a bit of a newbie with bash and im trying my best to improve my one liners/scripts thanks :) _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?id=60969

Patched KVM RPMs (solves 'network shutdown under heavy load')

Hi list, due to the necessity of having a patched KVM running, I build some new RPMs. However, only kmod-kvm-83-105.27.x86_64.rpm is important to replace the 'original' one as it's the only package that contains the patch. I didn't rename the packages, though, hopefully in order not to break the upgrade path provided to us. The patch adresses following problem: 'Fix a race condition where qemu finds that there are not enough virtio ring buffers available and the guest make more buffers available before qemu can enable notifications.' [0], the thread startet as 'network shutdown under heavy load' [1]. KVM already contains the fix (since February 19th, IIRC), CentOS' packages doesn't. Publishing a webcam on a web page?

This talk of cameras has reminded me of a problem I've not yet been able to solve. I have a Logitech Communicate STX ( ID 046d:08ad Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX ) This seems to work under v4l on CentOS 5.4. If I load xawtv (from rpmforge) then I can view the image from the camera. But what I'd like to be able to do is have the image appear on a web page (maybe streaming video or maybe multi-part image using old-fashioned server-push web technology from 1995 :-)). Anyone have any recommended tools for this? Thanks! -- rgds Stephen
